Yesterday, history was made at Rochdale’s BIGGEST South Asian Heritage Festival – and YOU were a part of it! 🙌

🎉 Over 1,100 people came together to celebrate our rich cultures, heritage, music, dance, art, and community spirit. The Town Hall was alive with colour, joy, and unity — proof that when our community comes together, magic happens! ✨

From breathtaking performances 🎶, to incredible activities 🎨, to the delicious food 🍛 — every single moment was unforgettable.

We’re excited to announce that Rochdale Science Initiative C.I.C will be joining this year’s South Asian Heritage Festival at Rochdale Town Hall on Thursday, 7th August, from 11am to 4pm!

Join us for a vibrant celebration of colour, culture, and community with:
• Interactive cultural stalls
• Inspiring workshops including yoga, Bollywood Zumba, bilingual storytelling and more
• Live music, drumming, poetry, and traditional dance performances
• A warm, family-friendly atmosphere open to all

Find us in the Bright Hall for hands-on science fun!
We’ll be running exciting, drop-in activities inspired by legendary South Asian scientists, engineers, and inventors. Explore the festival’s “Roots to Routes” theme as you experiment, create, and discover.

🚀 Film Canister Rocket
Blast off with a mini-rocket inspired by Dr. Abdul Qadeer Khan, Pakistan’s rocket pioneer. Discover how fizzy tablets and water can launch your dreams sky-high.

🔬 Microscope Exploration
See the invisible with Dr. Asima Chatterjee, India’s pioneering chemist. Examine spices, leaves, and more—uncovering a hidden world and celebrating South Asian botanical wisdom.

🏗️ Lego Engineering Challenge
Design towering structures like Dr. Fazlur Rahman Khan, Bangladesh’s “father of skyscrapers.” Test your engineering skills and see how high you can go.

🏗️ Skewer and Tape Tower Challenge
Build earthquake-resistant towers inspired by Yasmeen Lari, Pakistan’s first female architect. Use simple materials to create strong, creative solutions.

🧪🌈 DIY Lava Lamp Experiment
Create dazzling color displays with C.V. Raman, India’s Nobel-winning physicist. Explore how light and liquids mix and watch science come alive in your own bottle.

✈️ Paper Aeroplane Challenge
Take flight with Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, India’s “Missile Man.” Fold, decorate, and fly your own paper plane and see how far your imagination can soar.

Our activities are fun, interactive, and suitable for all ages. Come celebrate the science, creativity, and heritage of South Asia, wherever your roots or routes may lead.
