Six gigs land in Preston this week, spread across five venues from Thursday through Saturday. There's a milestone anniversary, a couple of touring underground acts, two outdoor day parties and a metal tribute night, so late July has plenty going on for very different crowds.
The Ferret turns 20 this year, and Thursday's part of the celebrations brings The Bug Club to the stage, doors 7pm. Ticket details are at the link. The Ferret calls them one of the UK's most exciting guitar bands, and it's as good an excuse as any to mark two decades of the venue.
Friday the Ferret hosts bis with support from The Cords, doors 7pm, £12.50. Bis are into their fourth decade now, from the Kandy Pop era through to their Powerpuff Girls theme tune, and The Cords bring DIY indie pop to open.
Also Friday, The Continental has Pantera A.D., doors 8pm, £12. It's a tribute night built around Pantera's metal power, precision and grit rather than the real thing, but it should carry plenty of the energy.
Saturday is the busiest day. Chew's Yard runs A Grand Day Out from 2pm, £10, a multi-genre festival spread across three Market Street West venues — Chew's Yard, Nytclas and Chain House Tap Room. Over at The Collecting Yard, the Country Girls Yard Party starts at 2pm, £10, with an afternoon of live music on the farm running into early evening. And at BLITZ, thrash veterans Vio-lence play doors 7pm, £21, as part of their Eruption of Screams summer tour.
