Did you know our Research & Conservation Team carries out small mammal monitoring right here at Knowsley Safari?
From April to September, our team and dedicated volunteers conduct surveys to monitor the native small mammals that call the safari home. Humane tube traps, filled with bedding and food, are placed out overnight before being checked the following morning.
Wood mice are our most common visitors, although we occasionally find bank voles and common shrews too!
Each animal is carefully identified and recorded before being safely released back into the wild. This important work helps us better understand and protect local wildlife populations.
Have you ever spotted a wood mouse, bank vole or shrew in the wild? 👀
