Saturday night at Uig Hall was the third North End Jam, but the first one with a theme. The theme was Summer, so we had to have a few songs about bad weather!

It was also a night we a few firsts. We had keyboards for the first time and we had a banjo for the first time too.

The best first for me was the first airing of a North End Jam original song. At the last jam Ray started playing some chords he’d been working on and Diane improvised a melody and some lyrics in the moment. Rather wonderfully, they’ve worked out an arrangement together and played it in public for the first time at the jam.

I feel a bit like a proud dad.

The next jam will probably be in late October with a spooky theme, for obvious reasons.

Tomorrow (Saturday) at 7pm the North End Jam will return to Uig hall.

You can come and sing, play an instrument or just listen. Everyone is welcome.

We’re working on some songs with a Summer theme and the emphasis is on participation, rather than perfection.

Let me know if you want to play or sing and we’ll confirm a running order before we kick off.

Thanks 🙏 🙏 🙏

We can play anything we damn well like at the North End Jam…but totally free form can be a bit confronting.

So we’re compiling a list of possible songs that a few people can play. We can add to it, adjust it and totally ignore it, but it’s a place to start.

Let us know if any other these float your boat or ring your bell or suggest something else you’d like to sing/play/hear…

Johnnie B Goode
Twist and Shout
Free Fallin’
Creep
What’s Up (4 Non Blondes)
Hey Joe
Folsom Prison Blues
All The Small Things
Zombie
Yellow
Don’t Look Back In Anger
Wicked Game
Chasing Cars
Stand By Me
Hit The Road Jack
Country Roads

North End Jam #2 is all set for the 11th June at 7pm in Uig hall.

We’re tightening up the format a bit for this one to get everyone comfortable playing together.

We’ll kick off with some acoustic songs to help everyone get their ear in. We’ll use the cajon or other percussion for those.

We’ll close the first half and open the second half with pipes (if we have any).

Then the second half will be amplified, but we’ll only have two guitars amplified during any song, to keep the overall sound a bit clearer.

Just like the last time, anyone can rock up and sing or play any instrument. Also, people are welcome to just come and hang.

I’m working on a list of possible songs to “gather around”, so please suggest any you’d like to play, sing or just listen to.

Thanks
