The making of the wall pieces ➿
Part 2 of my exhibition pieces - you can see these wall pieces hanging behind me in the earlier post .
After seeing how the lava glazed vessels expanded and connected, I wanted to follow this idea of interconnecting pieces. I loved the way a frothy tide line had formed on the necks of the vases and wanted to explore that on flatware, imagining a painted seascape. I hand lettered the titles, year and my initials, and had them printed as onglaze decals with to complete each piece.

On the plinth next to me in my last post you can just see a few of these bud vases - the first pieces I made for this show. My first time using these I was so surprised when I opened the kiln to find them interconnected - like water moving to hug a spoon, the lava glaze had reached out and touched the pot next to it, creating these awesome geomorphological-like features. A couple of them stayed connected for a while but in the end they all separated, leaving behind little craggy extensions as evidence of their touch points.
The interaction between these pieces was what inspired the wall hanging pieces (behind me on the last post) which came next.photography took these incredible photos and I made this first one into my new postcards because it felt like such a moment. That’s why I love working towards an exhibition like this, it’s a little line in the sand, to look back and connect the dots.

I called my workshops ‘Clay & Gather’ because it perfectly captures what I hope to offer - the combined joy of working with clay and gathering together ❤️
I truly believe there’s something transformative in both; creativity, making by hand, working with clay… alongside community, connection, and shared experience. Small things that can make a real difference to our health and happiness.
I have more workshops coming up in June and July - details, dates, and locations are all in the link in bio ✨
