Sandhead Beach
Approx 16 miles from Pink Cottage, this expansive beach is dog friendly and at low tide extends up to 3 miles, which makes for a great walk.

Facilities: plenty of parking, toilets & playpark
Sandhead also has a shop and a restaurant: Tigh na Mara

Interesting fact: from the Sandhead shore you may notice 3 large structures sitting on the bed of Luce Bay. These are actually wartime relics; constructed in 1937 as RAF Bombing practice targets. Originally this construction supported a target platform. Commonly 11lb smoke bombs were used for target practice for the nearby RAF WEST FREUGH

At low tide you can walk right up to the huge structures and although nearly 90 years in the sea is clearly taking its toll; it is still a remarkable piece of history.

It’s been a productive weekend @ Pink Cottage. Still some work yet to do on the big bug hotel.

🐟 Port Logan Fishpond is the UK's oldest natural marine aquarium, operating as a historic 200-year-old tidal fish pond.

🐟 Originally used as a private sea-fish larder to keep a fresh supply of fish ready for Logan House.

🐟 A natural rock tunnel allows seawater to cycle in and out with the tides, keeping the water fresh.

Our visitors can view tame resident marine life, including various fish, lobsters, crabs, and starfish 🦞🐟🦀.

One for us to try 💕

Did you know our Late Night Larder isn’t all about w**e, w**e bites and our restaurant menu? ☕🍰

On Wednesday and Thursday evenings, we’re also a late night café, open right through until 10pm. So whether it’s an evening coffee, a slice of cake, something sweet, or just somewhere cosy to sit for a while, you’re very welcome.

And on Fridays and Saturdays, we stay open right through the afternoon too, so between 3pm and 6pm you can still pop in for coffees, cakes and food from our retail shelves, before our evening service gets underway.

The Larder doesn’t disappear when the daytime café closes, it just changes pace a little.
