OPEN CALL FOR ART

The Message of Hope Exhibition & Fundraiser

Created to coincide with World Su***de Prevention Day, this project brings artists together to explore the theme of hope through creativity while raising funds for charities supporting mental health and su***de prevention.

Last year, we raised £900, which was donated equally to Mind and Samaritans. This year, all proceeds from the exhibition will once again be donated to charities working in this field, and I hope we can raise even more support together.

Exhibition Dates:10–13 September 2026

Venue: Almanac Cafe & Jar Zero Waste

The exhibition will also include live music, food and creative workshops throughout the event.

SUBMISSION DETAILS

Theme: Hope

I am looking for artwork that explores hope in its broadest sense. The work can be personal, abstract, symbolic or narrative, but should communicate a sense of encouragement, resilience and positivity.

Colour Palette:

This year's exhibition colours are Gold and Purple, and both colours must be included in your artwork, even if only as a small detail. Gold represents hope, warmth, and optimism.

Purple represents resilience, strength and perseverance.

~ The Spirit of India~

Collage on book cover for the Collage&Culture - the first open call that celebrates the culture of India.

While reflecting on "Bindi" symbol today, I had a chance to read about other symbols of Indian culture. One of them is svastika - symbol that today is often misunderstood and connected to N**i atrocities.

I read that in spiritual traditions of India, the sw****ka is regarded as a sacred symbol of cosmic order, divine blessing and the eternal rhythm of existence. In Sanskrit, word svastika, means "that which brings well-being," and it represents harmony between the individual, nature and the whole universe.

As someone born in Poland, learning about the origin of this symbol, made me understand the very different meaning long before the N**i era. I now see the sw****ka not only through the lens of war, but also as an ancient symbol of hope, blessing and the human search for connection with the Divine.

Thank you Ranjini for hosting this creative opportunity for everyone to learn about different cultures with the medium of collage. It's very inspiring ♡

Summer Solstice Collage Workshop at .cafe.plymouth

During this 2 hour workshop, you will create collage inspired by these themes. Each participant will receive a specially curated collage pack filled with images and materials related to the Summer Solstice, folklore, magic, nature and seasonal symbolism.

We will also take a short break halfway through the session, to visit the café downstairs for lunch, refreshments or drinks, and to connect with other participants.

Rich culture, deep spiritual essence and mystery of this country that influence my art lately and it's very close to my heart.

I took these pictures while travelling in Morocco last year, and I am very excited to return to this land again in November. I can't wait to see the vibrant colours, bustling souks, endless deserts and colours, and to feel the ancient energy of this magical place ✨️
