Sometimes things don’t go according to plan.
And that’s okay 🖤
Children’s piercings are some of my absolute favourite appointments. Their courage never stops amazing me.
Of course I love when everything goes smoothly and a child walks out with a perfectly matched pair of piercings. But what I love even more is a child who feels safe enough to say, “No, I’m not ready.”
After safety and hygiene, my biggest priority is the wellbeing and autonomy of the child in my chair. I want every child to know their feelings matter, their choices matter, and they’re always in control of what happens to their body.
If that means we stop after one piercing and come back another day, then that’s exactly what we’ll do.
I know that’s frustrating. Rescheduling isn’t ideal, and neither is paying for a second appointment. I genuinely understand.
But I’d much rather a child leave feeling heard, respected, and proud of themselves than pressured into something they weren’t ready for.
I’ll happily spend the extra time helping them feel safe.
Whether that’s dancing around the studio, making silly faces, playing their favourite song, taking deep breaths together, or simply sitting and talking until they’re ready.
Children’s appointments often take much longer than adult piercings, and that care is part of the service.
Balancing compassion with the realities of running a business isn’t always easy, but protecting a child’s trust will always matter more to me than finishing a second piercing.
My hope is that every family leaves our studio feeling cared for, even if the appointment didn’t go as planned. And when the time is right, we’ll be here to finish the journey - at the child’s pace. 🖤
