šŸ’™ Wildlife Awareness on the South Inch šŸ’™

A very upsetting incident took place recently on the South Inch, where a nest of Blue Tit chicks was deliberately disturbed and the babies were put in danger.

A quick‑thinking local resident stepped in, stopped what was happening, and managed to rescue all five chicks. They were taken straight to a wildlife carer and are thankfully doing well.

Harming wild birds, their nests or their young is a criminal offence under the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981.

If you ever witness wildlife being harmed:

• Call 999 if it’s happening in the moment
• Call 101 to report past incidents
• Ask for a Wildlife Crime Officer
• If safe, document what you see

Let’s continue looking out for the wildlife that makes Perth such a special place.

This is the most upsetting case yet! 😔
These 5 nestling Blue T**s have endured a horrible experience. Some kids on the South Inch in Perth destroyed their nest, killed their mother who was sitting on the nest.... then it gets worse.... they put the baby Blue T**s in a plastic carrier bag and started to swing them around and were about to fill it with water to drown them!! 🤬

Thankfully, Sarah who witnessed this horrific scene, quickly intervened and managed to get the bag off the kids and rescue the babies. What an absolute hero šŸ‘ Sarah and her neighbour Paul rushed the Blue T**s down to me yesterday evening.

Sarah is going to report the incident to the Police. This is a criminal offence under the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981. You can be prosecuted for either acting intentionally or recklessly. This can be reported to the police and asking to speak to a Wildlife Crime Officer.

If anyone sees stuff like this happening call 999 immediately. Document the scene, take photos/videos. To report past crimes or suspicious activity call 101 and ask to speak to a wildlife crime officer. We can't let this cruelty continue!

Thankfully the wee Blue T**s are all doing well, just a bit shy.

A member and regular contributer Marcus Tyler Photography of popular Facebook group Pictures of Perth and Beyond has recently shared some absolutely stunning photos of a beautiful and rarely seen animal… the badger.

Badgers are shy, nocturnal creatures, so getting such a clear look at one is really special. They live in underground homes called setts, often passed down through generations. Badgers usually live in family groups known as clans, and their diet includes earthworms, insects, berries and other woodland snacks. They’re protected by law in the UK, and their setts must not be disturbed.

These photos are a lovely reminder of the wildlife we share our landscape with here in Perth. Thank you to the very talented contributor for capturing such a magical moment.

We spent the day at the Classic Car Show Festival Day, and honestly, we’ve not seen Perth this buzzing in ages. The atmosphere was incredible, families out enjoying the sunshine, classic motors gleaming, and that lovely community spirit you only get here.

A brilliant day out from start to finish. Perth, you’ve done it again. šŸ’™

šŸ’š Perth at Its Finest šŸ’š

Every so often, a photo comes along that stops you in your tracks and this one from Danielle Robertson, one of the talented Pictures of Perth and Beyond members, does exactly that.

Her spectacular drone shot of Our Fair City reminds us why we love Perth so deeply. The beauty, the light, the landscape… it never ceases to amaze us.

Thank you, Danielle, for capturing Perth in such a magical way. Our community is all the richer for it.

An award-winning line up to debut Perth Festival’s new 2-day jazz event.

The UK’s leading jazz artists come together for Perth Festival’s new 2-day event, Jazz in Perth. The brand new all-weekend experience adds an exciting new element to an already jam-packed programme for the 54th edition of Perth Festival of the Arts.

Jazz in Perth sees a jazz trail weave around the city from morning to night, connecting audiences to Scotland’s leading jazz artists as well as local artists and emerging talent. The development also aims to attract attendees from across Scotland and encourage visitors to the city.

The jazz celebrations open on Saturday 30 May. BBC Radio Scotland Young Jazz Musician winner pianist Ben Shankland joins forces with Scottish Jazz Award-winning violinist/ vocalist and broadcaster Seonaid Aitken to present a celebration of George and Ira Gershwin’s music. Rhapsody in Blue: An Afternoon of Gershwin features the 100+ year old symphonic masterpiece performed alongside a 9-piece string orchestra and explores the meeting of jazz and classical styles in Gershwin’s music. String players of all ages can also join Seonaid earlier in the day for a fun workshop in swing rhythms and improvisation.
The virtuoso of fingerstyle jazz, Martin Taylor, performs that evening in The Salutation Hotel with a celebration of timeless standards. Martin returns to the stage with his brand-new solo show ā€œStandardsā€, celebrating the golden age of jazz through fresh and evocative arrangements of classic tunes from the Great American Songbook. Audiences can expect an evening of breath-taking musicianship, rich harmonies, and stories that transport you behind the music - from smoky jazz clubs to concert halls around the world.
Local talent is also celebrated, with free jazz concerts across different venues featuring Perth & Kinross Big Band, saxophonist Kimberley Tessa, and bassist Roberto Cassani with his band ZZ Bop.
Sunday’s offerings open with a fascinating insight into the History of Jazz Piano at Perth Art Gallery delivered by one of Scotland’s leading jazz musicians, Richard Michael. In this afternoon talk, Richard takes us on a journey through the styles some of the great jazz pianists of all time. For a mid-afternoon treat, two Scottish jazz titans, trumpeter Colin Steele (winner of Best Jazz Instrumentalist 2025), saxophonist Martin Kershaw and their quartet bring the sunshine sounds from the giants of the 1950s West Coast cool school to Perth.

The weekend closes with a headline concert by Georgia CĆ©cile, also supporting Jools Holland in Perth this July. With a captivating blend of jazz and contemporary soul and crowned ā€˜UK Jazz Act of the Year’ and ā€˜Vocalist of the Year’ at the 2022 Jazz FM Awards, Georgia is at the forefront of the UK jazz renaissance.

Festival Director Helen Band commented: ā€œWe’re excited to bring Jazz in Perth to the city. A number of local venues already have a great jazz vibe throughout the year and we’re delighted to partner with them and build on that, showcasing world-class artists. Tickets are selling quickly; there’s been a great appetite for it. We want audiences to explore our venues, visit the city and enjoy the amazing music. Whether you’re a seasoned jazz fan or new to the genre, there’s lots to exploreā€.
Tickets are now on sale at perthfestival.co.uk with one-day ā€˜Jazz Passes’ available, offering 20% discount on headline shows.

Each May, Scotland’s fair city becomes alive with the sound of music as Perth Festival of the Arts celebrates a feast of arts across the city in its 12 days-festival featuring Jools Holland and his Rhythm & Blues Orchestra, Fred MacAulay and operatic sensation Lesley Garrett. Ahead of its 54th year, opening on 21 May, the Festival has announced an exciting new expansion in the form of a 2-day jazz extravaganza on 30-31 May.

ALL the Arts | TEN Days | ONE Amazing Festival For ten days in May, Perth Festival of the Arts becomes the highlight in Scotlands cultural calendar and brings some of the finest international and national performers to Perth

Collaborative Partnerships

Solas has been awarded Ā£53,000 from The Scottish Government’s Expanded Festivals Fund through Creative Scotland. This vital support will help Solas Festival to showcase Scottish-based artists, expand our reach and create new opportunities for talent development.

As part of this funded initiative, Solas is partnering with independent Scottish music programmers to curate several special performances. This includes collaborations with Chris’s Gigs, who have been promoting music in Comrie for over 20 years, and Letham Nights - both organisations will showcase a curated selection of their favourite artists at this year’s festival.

A new partnership with the National Centre for Music will also fund performances by six emerging artists. To support industry progression, there will also be an accredited masterclass in operating live sound equipment for the group.

A new partnership with the Iona Community and the Methodist Church will shape this year’s spirituality strand, bringing fresh perspectives and collective insight. The programme will include a session exploring how we can nurture and sustain local faith communities in challenging times, offering both reflection and practical inspiration.

šŸ“¢šŸ“¢ WE WOULD LIKE TO INTRODUCE OUR OFFICIAL PHOTOGRAPHER MILA šŸ“¢šŸ“¢

"Hi, I’m Mila from Photography By Mila, and I’m proud to be an official photographer for Perth Life.

Photography has been a huge part of my life for the past 16 years, on and off. What first drew me to photography was the ability to capture beauty, emotion, and those special moments that can last a lifetime while also giving me the freedom to use my imagination and creativity behind the lens.

Although I now live in Dundee, Perth will always hold a special place in my heart, as I grew up there before making the move 10 years ago.

I’m also a proud mum to two beautiful wee boys, one of whom has additional needs, and I’m happily engaged to my incredibly supportive fiancĆ©e, who has been my biggest cheerleader throughout my photography journey.

A huge thank you to Marysia for giving me this amazing opportunity. I can’t wait to meet everyone and capture more special moments within the community".

Mila will be at Luncarty Live Luncarty Fc social club today so please stop and say hello!
