Question: What do you get when you mix a room full of people from different sectors and roles across an island economy, and provide them with all the tools they need to create transformative innovation?

Answer: always more than you think!

Aside from a lot of fun, we were blown away by everyone’s willingness to collaborate and push beyond their understanding of innovation and how we all have important role to play if we want a regenerative, resilient future.

Alongside my fellow Nionn Horizons collaborators, Lucy Chapman and Charlotte Traynor, we covered a lot of ground: exploring global innovation trends and skills, deep dived into the Three Horizons framework and how to recognise types of innovation within the longterm vision of systems change, we rapid prototyped, discovered the voices of change and their dynamic - and so much more!

(And yes, the global polycrisis has now been officially re-named the disco ball of doom!)

Thank you so much to Earthscope Isle of Man for inviting us to run this session ‘Innovation and the Future of Work’ as part of the Unesco Biosphere Isle of Man Sustainable Mann series for businesses. We look forwards to seeing you all again soon at the graduation after-party!

🌈 Just a regular colourful day in the office prepping for workshops!

This Saturday we are running a Three Horizons workshop to explore systemic values with a group of sustainability practitioners, to help better understand the conditions required to support wellbeing in transformative practice. This important session will form part of Lucy Chapman’s MSc research at the Centre for Alternative Technology.

And on Monday, myself and fellow Nionn Horizons colleagues are very much looking forwards to running the final Sustainable Mann session for businesses, hosted by Earthscope Isle of Man and Unesco Biosphere Isle of Man on the theme of ‘Innovation and the Future of Work’.

There might still be some tickets for this event if you would like to join us: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/sustainable-mann-7-innovation-and-future-of-work-tickets-1700761967829?aff=odcleoeventsincollection&keep_tld=1

I had such a delightful day teaching a life drawing masterclass with a group of very committed participants at the weekend.

I lead the group through a series of drawing challenges, but structured the day as a journey up to, in to, and out of the body.

The body is a doorway, a constant invitation to threshold and transformation, a vehicle to the lived experience: pleasure, pain, rites of passage and boundary. With a bit of poetry, discussion and guided exercises, we also explored what it meant to be present and embodied as we worked. Bodies in relationship to themselves, each other and their environment.

Thank you Life Drawing Masterclasses for inviting me to run this special session, and thank you to everyone who came (despite the snow!) to join in and share this experience in Kensington Arts - the old Douglas School of Art no less!

💥 We’re very pleased to have been invited by Earthscope Isle of Man to run an interactive session for this year’s Sustainable Mann training series for business.

Alongside my fellow Nionn Horizons team, Lucy Chapman and Charlotte Traynor, we will be exploring innovation and the future of work. Grounding our session in futures thinking frameworks that will help you clearly understand the challenges and necessity of operating in the space of innovation, and why innovative capacity is critical if we want to build a fair, resilient and regenerative future for all.

And of course (because it’s us!) expect plenty of practical, playful exploration as we dive into a deeper understand of transformative innovation and how you can implement it within the context of your own business, regardless of your role or position.

Hosted by Unesco Biosphere Isle of Man and Earthscope, tickets are still available for this event on Monday the 23rd of February: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/sustainable-mann-7-innovation-and-future-of-work-tickets-1700761967829?aff=odcleoeventsincollection&keep_tld=1

And the 2025 highlights are in ✨
It hasn’t been the easiest year, but it’s been a meaningful one. In no particular order, here are some favourite achievements, creative moments and biggest thank-yous:

✳️ Nionn Horizons — soft-launching our regenerative design collective with Lucy Chapman and Charlotte Traynor. So grateful to Nat Hunter for helping us shape this exciting new offering… so much to come in 2026!

✳️ Continual learning — two standout courses that shaped my practice: the Three Horizons Facilitation course (International Futures Forum) and 4D Regenerative Design Literacy with Daniel Christian Wahl via Gaia Education.

✳️ Net Zero Isle of Man — working with the Isle of Man Government to deliver REIMAGINING our Biosphere workshops to approximately 1,700 Year 5, 6 and 9 pupils. We used creativity + systems thinking to explore a low-carbon future. Huge thanks to Jade Foster for backing the project.

✳️ Unesco Biosphere Isle of Man — creating a tailored, rebranded version of REIMAGINING our Biosphere, plus facilitation training for their team. It has been a joy to see the game out in the wild!

✳️ TCX-York — facilitating a regenerative systems change workshop at the University of York as part of the Transformations Community conference on organising for systems change. Thanks to H3Uni and Isle of Man Arts Council for the support.

✳️ Eelips Family Guide — a special commission celebrating Bryan Kneale RA’s latest sculpture, including the design of a folkloric map of the Island inspired by his favourite places. Thanks to Culture Vannin and Isle of Man Arts Council, but most of all, Bryan’s family.

✳️ Make Space for Nature — developing the visual identity for Manx Wildlife Trust’s national campaign, plus delivering a mini Three Horizons workshop as part of the 6-week community engagement programme.

✳️ Women in Nature — co-hosting a delicious workshop with Lucy Chapman during Manx Wildlife Week hosted by Manx National Heritage. Creating space for connection and reflection through nature.

✳️ 25 Women of Mann — honoured (and surprised!) to be included among women making change on the Island. Thanks to Media Isle of Man for celebrating the women who are striving to make this world it’s best version of itself.

Here’s to 2026 and all it will bring 🌱
See you on the other side.

🌏 I’m delighted to share that my work with the REIMAGINING our Biosphere game features as a key piece of participatory research in a paper published last month by Eugyen Suzanne Om titled ‘Synergies: Understanding in a Complex World’.

🌿 The paper forms part of Suzanne’s PhD from the University of York and discusses three approaches to synergy. Suzanne argues that in the face of rapid environmental, social and economic destabilisation, there is a need for swift, coherent and systemic change. One way to do this is through bringing about deeper awareness of the concept of synergy - including ‘synergy as perceived whole’ - where the game is used as a case study for this, particularly in the context of my work with Net Zero Isle of Man, Unesco Biosphere Isle of Man and Manx Wildlife Trust.

🧠 How can we understand whole systems and re-perceive complexity? Suzanne discusses the repatterining of perspectives and worldview to understand the whole, and stimulate new patterns of relationship within complex systems.

🌍The REIMAGINING our Biosphere game is an exploration into this, and is based on World System mapping, a framework for working with whole systems for a healthy and regenerative society and planet at every level of organisation, developed by H3Uni et all.

👉 Other contributors to the paper include Ioan Fazey, Rebecca Newman, Anthony Hodgson, Mick Cooper, Esther Carmen, Gideon Buffoe, Lee Eyre and Juan P. Cordero.

🏵️ Congratulations on completing your PhD Suzanne - I look forwards to seeing what’s next for you!

I had so much fun designing and illustrating this in collaboration with Bryan's family. The inside contains a big folkloric map of the Island with some of Bryan's favourite sites and stories, and some of his other sculptures that you may (or may not!) already be familiar with on the Island.

I'll get some proper snaps of the inside soon, but in the meantime, a big thank you to Isle of Man Arts Council for supporting this project.

Grab your own copy of this family guide out in the wild at various sites across the Island, including at Culture Vannin (who were also very instrumental in helping) and then go visit the sculpture at the Arboretum!
