🚨 ‘Starmer made a promise to Hillsborough families — now fears are growing he won’t keep it’
Families affected by the Hillsborough disaster say they are losing patience as the promised Hillsborough Law faces more delays. ⚖️
Sir Keir Starmer has repeatedly promised to bring in the law, which would force public officials to tell the truth after disasters and help prevent future cover-ups. 🏛️📜
But campaigners say the bill has now stalled in Parliament and fear another anniversary will pass without action. ⏳
💬 Charlotte Hennessy, whose father Jimmy was one of the 97 Liverpool fans unlawfully killed in 1989, says Starmer has made the promise to families several times — but still hasn’t delivered.
Campaigners are especially worried about changes linked to the intelligence services, warning the law could be weakened if some parts of the state are not fully covered. ⚠️
📩 Families linked to Hillsborough, the Post Office scandal and the Manchester Arena attack have written to the prime minister, calling the delay an “insult”.
They say this law must be delivered in full, with a real duty of candour at its heart. ✅
The government says it still plans to bring the bill back and wants to get it right without risking national security. 🇬🇧
🙏 For many families, though, the message is simple:
No more delays. No watered-down version. Keep the promise.
