Another week of creating, making, wrapping and generally causing chaos at Mariposa 🦋😂

Commissions have been flying out of the door, there’s been jewellery making, jewellery repairs, resin bowls, more gemstone jars and all sorts happening on the workbench.

We’ve got some lovely new makers joining us soon too, which means even more original things are going to be finding their way onto the shelves.

One of my favourite moments this week was someone popping in simply to tell me how much they love our window — particularly that it’s always changing and there’s something different to see. ❤️ I probably rearrange it far more often than is strictly necessary, so I’m taking that as permission to carry on. 😂

And something else I’m really enjoying is helping people choose gifts. Tell me a little about the person, give me a budget and we’ll wander around until we find something that feels right — then I’ll gift wrap it for you too. 🎁

There are handmade pieces, original art, curiosities, things made in our own workshops, pieces from our independent makers and quite a few things you probably weren’t expecting to find.

Oh, and the gemstone jars have multiplied again. Obviously. 🤦‍♀️😂

Mariposa Creations — not your ordinary gift shop. 🦋

Pop in, have a nose, and see what’s changed this week. ❤️

Another busy week at Mariposa… 🦋

I’ve been playing with resin again (because apparently I can’t leave anything alone 😂), making and repairing costume jewellery, taking more commissions and generally disappearing behind the workbench whenever I get the chance.

There have been some gorgeous new pottery pieces arriving too — including a few little Christmas cows who may already be hiding around the shop. Yes, I know it’s August. No, I’m not apologising. 🎅🐮😂

Meanwhile, Hardware Artware from the Oke Computer Repairs Ltd workshop is proving rather popular! The latest commission is a PUBG: Battlegrounds clock, currently in progress and standing guard in the window this weekend.

The coffee candles are now looking very much at home in their espresso, cappuccino and latte cups ☕️, the mice are patiently waiting to be adopted, and new pieces seem to be appearing on the shelves almost as quickly as others disappear.

There have been commissions collected, new ones started, shelves filled, shelves emptied and the window has had another shuffle — so basically, a fairly normal week at Mariposa. 😂

Oh, and the work in progress shelf is getting bigger! 😂🤦‍♀️

As always, a huge thank you to everyone who has popped in, bought something, commissioned something or simply stopped for a chat. ❤️

You really do make this little shop what it is. 🦋

Another week at Mariposa… and the workbench has definitely earned its keep! 🦋

There’s been a lot of experimenting, creating and making this week — along with commissions, lovely customers and a few pieces that barely had time to touch the shelves before they were gone again.

One of my favourite commissions was this titanium ring with a real silver necklace incorporated into the design — yes, a necklace inside a ring! The blue and silver tones were chosen to complement the lady’s hair and make it completely personal to her.

And she loved it. ❤️ In fact, she was so pleased with it that she was showing it to other customers before she’d even left the shop! That made my day.

We’ve also started something completely new — the Through the Window series. The first one features a little cat sitting at the window watching three birds outside, combining painting with glass to create the scene.

Then there’s been coffee. Well… technically candles. 😂☕️
Espressos, cappuccinos and lattes have been appearing on the workbench and looking increasingly dangerous to anyone who fancies a caffeine fix!

The hand-painted ceramic bust has now had her final finish too, with enamel and varnish bringing out all those blues, silvers and golds.

There was also a three-dog commission this week — and naturally I was so busy getting it finished and off to its new home that I completely forgot to photograph the finished piece. 🤦‍♀️

And that rather sums up the week: things being made, things being collected, new ideas appearing, bespoke orders being taken and some new creations going onto the shelf and back off again on the very same day.

A very good week. ❤️

And as always, a huge thank you to everyone who comes through the door — whether you buy something, order something special, come back to collect a commission or simply stop for one of the many wonderful conversations we seem to have in here.

Well… we didn’t manage a Saturday update. I think the photos might explain why! 😂🦋

It’s been another wonderfully busy week at Mariposa.

The workbench is FULL, some of the shelves are decidedly less full… and I’m certainly not complaining! That just means it’s time to get making and restocking again.

We’ve had so many fabulous visitors through the door, some wonderful conversations, returning faces and lots of new ones too.

One particularly lovely moment was meeting a lady who had spotted one of my creations online last week and came into the shop specifically to buy it. There’s something rather special about realising that the things I sit at that very messy bench and make are being seen, remembered and then chosen. ❤️

And some of the new creations haven’t exactly been given much chance to settle in — they’ve gone almost as quickly as they’ve reached the shelves!

Meanwhile, the next lot are already underway. There are beads, findings, resin, paint and goodness knows what else covering the bench, handmade pieces coming back in from our local makers, and plenty more ideas currently rattling around in my head.

We’re also taking bespoke orders for birthdays and Christmas — so if you have someone who is impossible to buy for, or an idea for something personal that you simply can’t find in the shops, come and have a chat. Sometimes an idea is all we need to start with.

Thank you, as always, to everyone who has wandered in, bought something, placed an order, come back for another visit or told somebody else about our little shop.

Mariposa is growing — one slightly emptier shelf and one increasingly chaotic workbench at a time. 😂🦋

What a lovely week it’s been at Mariposa. 🦋

We’re starting to see some wonderful regulars, meeting visitors to Okehampton, and getting to know the people who are popping in for a browse, a chat, a gift, or simply a little look around.

There have been commissions too. Someone loved one of the little sea glass “Congratulations” pictures but wanted something a little more wedding-like, so I created a new version especially for Verity and Jonny, complete with dried flowers, sea glass and their wedding date.

That’s one of the things I love most about Mariposa — taking an idea someone likes and turning it into something that feels personal to them.

The shop has also been filling up with new pieces, all either handmade by me, created by local makers, or made by original artists whose work fits beautifully within the space.

We’ve had holidaymakers choosing little pieces to take home with them, new work going out one day and disappearing the next, and lots of lovely encouragement for the direction Mariposa is taking.

Behind the scenes, I’m still creating too — trying new ideas, developing new pieces, and letting the shop evolve as I do.

It feels less like I’m simply filling shelves and more like Mariposa is beginning to find her own rhythm.

Thank you to everyone who has visited, supported, commissioned, returned, recommended, or simply stopped to say something kind. It all matters more than you know.

Every corner of Mariposa tells a little story.

Some pieces are made here in the workshop.

Some are designed late at night with a cup of tea beside me.

Some start life as resin, some as copper wire, some as paper, wood or stone…

But every single piece has been chosen or created because I simply thought…

“I’d love this in my own home.”

That’s always been my guide.

If you’ve popped in recently, thank you.

If you haven’t visited yet, come and have a browse Okehampton Victorian Shopping Arcade

There’s no pressure—just lots of lovely things waiting to be discovered. 🦋
