One of the questions I get asked about is, 'How long does one of your prints take to paint?' So I thought I'd break down the painting process behind one of my most popular prints - my Chameleon 🦎🌺

Every single element is painted individually before I even think about putting everything together digitally.

The Chameleon himself took around 6 hours to paint - a real labour of love - and every minute was worth it.

The Hibiscus flower took about 2 hours.... and was painted right next to a very ugly parrot! 😅 it was my first attempt at painting a parrot, and I can safely say it will never be seeing the light of day.

The leaves were much quicker, around 30 minutes, and the smaller flowers took about an hour.

Total number of painting hours - 10 hours!!! 🤪

Once all the individual paintings are finished, I scan everything into the computer and start playing around with the composition until it all comes together.

I genuinely love every stage of the process, but painting will always be my favourite part. I never mind how long it takes because it's where the magic happens. I think you can really see the time, care, and attention that goes into this print, and it's probably one of the reasons it has remained one of my most popular pieces.

The Fig print has finally arrived in my etsy shop. Available in A3, A4, A5. Although only 1 A3 left as this was the most popular print at my last market.

As with all my prints, the artwork is hand painted using acrylic paint.

This one also matches perfectly with the olive print 🫒

The most favourite part of my design process has officially begun.....painting the Fairlsle pattern 🌲🎅

At this stage, I'm not even sure whether this design will end up on one card or become part of two different Christmas card designs. For now, I'm simply enjoying the process - brush in hand and watching the pattern come to life.

Sometimes, the best part of creating is not knowing exactly where it will lead 🎨

I've been thinking recently that I need to share more of my design process with you all, so here we go...

You might think me a little crazy to be thinking about Christmas now, particularly in the middle of a heat wave, but I think it is the perfect time so I'm not stressing later on in the year and end up rushing ideas I'm not happy with.

So, I am planning to design 6 Christmas cards this year and this is my design process. I sketch out each design and scribble ideas and notes for myself alongside. Often, these ideas change as the design process develops. These ideas are very rough and may only make sense to me, but I wanted to share them anyway. I am hoping the final product will look a little more polished than these 😅

Christmas card ideas;

1. 'NOEL' typography card. Taking inspiration from my 'LOVE' card

2. 'Merry & Bright' colourful illustrated border design akin to my best-selling pink 'happy birthday' card

3. 'HAPPY CHRISTMAS' fairsle boarder card. Taking inspiration from traditional Scandinavian jumper designs.

4. Gingerbread house decorative card. Looking at Gingerbread houses with lots of decorations and lots of colour for ideas.

5. Still very much a work in progress but thinking Christmas illustrations with highly decorative details and a decorative border.

6. Final card.....to be honest, I'm out of ideas today, but one will pop into my head soon enough. Or if you have any great ideas, please share 😜
