Mayday II "The Return"
Milford and Makeney make a marvellous May celebration.
This year they were celebrating the loan of the Bayeux Tapestry.
Maids Of The Mill win best outfits easily for having knitted their nifty Norman and superb Saxon armour themselves.
Sadly the video failed at The Holly Bush Inn so you will have to imagine how clever my history lesson was by hearing how they cheered for another one at The Elephant and Peacock.
For those not in the know:
The king is dead.
Aawwww...
Edward was very wise as he had no children.
Booo!/Yay!
Luckily he had a nephew to take his place but no one liked Edgar so he kept his mouth shut.
He did promise the throne to his cousin William.
Then he also promised the throne to his brother in law Harold.
Clear as mud.
Just to add to the fun, King Cnut's son had promised his friend Magnus the throne when he died but Magnus was too busy to collect.
Harald though was joint king of Norway with his sone so decided that he'd take it.
There were f***y cuffs.
Harold beat Harald then lost to William.
Normans refuse to speak English and Saxons refused to speak French Norman which is a tradition held on to up to this day by lots of folk from both sides

Tomorrow morning is Mayday again.
If you are joining us for the whole thing I advise parking along the river and walking back up to the Holly Bush Inn.
Fine drinks and tasty snacks are available.
If you are after something as hot as your good self then you'll enjoy The Elephant And Peacock's curries.
Plenty of parking there too.
Following this there will be a traditional summer fete type thing at the school with more dancing.
Then it will be time for our most dreadful sacrifice.
Going home.
If you happen to have full on armour then please embrace your inner Harald Hardrada, summon your inner Saxon by unleashing your Harold Godwinson side or break out your nifty Norman side as Duke William.
You can even be an Edgar if you fancy your odds.
Come as you are because you're a star.
Be careful where you point those bows though or you'll have someone's eye out.

This weekend I have two things planned.
Saturday is Mayday in Milford and Makeney.
Morris Dancing, well dressing, samba band, me and a procession between 3 places.
Oh, there is also fine beer and great curry available.
Sunday is Tea at the Tower.
The Sunken Church of Bramcote opens up to reveal an abundance of fine cakes.
If you fancy a show and some fun please join me for a marvellous May Day celebration.
