St Peter's Gilbert & Sullivan Society, Ravenshead

Gilbert & Sullivan Opera group for all ages and abilities, based in Ravenshead, Nottinghamshire. The society is now into it's 68th year of productions.

It was founded in 1954 by a group of Ravenshead residents with connection to St Peter's Church choir, headed by the late Mary Williamson. Over the years, it's reputation has flourished for sparkling productions making the most of the limitations of the small community halls where the performances have been staged. Currently, our productions take place in the Village Hall in Ravenshead. Most of our

members come from surrounding places, though not necessarily from Ravenshead itself, and are drawn by the high standard of the music and production values and the welcoming society. We are now recruiting for next season; all ages and abilities are very much welcomed! We aim to make rehearsing as much fun as the performances. We are always on the lookout not only for singers and actors, but also in the vital technical and 'backroom' roles. We currently rehearse on a Tuesday evening at Ravenshead Village Hall, Vernon Crescent, Ravenshead, Nottingham NG15 9BP, from 7:30pm to 9:30pm, so if you fancy joining us for our next performance, just come along! We produce a main show each year, usually during the February half-term holiday, and during the rest of the year perform smaller concerts for charitable purposes at various venues.

🎭 PRINCESS IDA REHEARSALS START IN JUST ONE WEEK! 👑✨

The countdown is officially on! In exactly ONE WEEK, we’ll be getting together for our very first rehearsal of Gilbert & Sullivan’s wonderfully witty Princess Ida! 🎶

But… we’re still looking for a few more people to join our merry band! 👀

🎭 CHORUS MEMBERS – fancy singing, dancing, dressing up and generally causing a bit of theatrical chaos? We’d love to have you!

🎬 BACKSTAGE HELPERS – love theatre but prefer to stay out of the spotlight? There’s loads to get involved with behind the scenes.

🔨 ADDITIONAL CREW – scenery, props, front of house team for show week and all the other jobs that magically make a show happen!

You don’t need to be an experienced theatre professional – just bring your enthusiasm, willingness to get involved and a love of Gilbert & Sullivan! ❤️

After disappearing more completely than the true King of Barataria, we're delighted to be returning with one last outing of The Gondoliers!

A battle of the sexes, a university run entirely by women, mistaken identities, glorious music, and Gilbert's razor-sharp humour—Princess Ida is a timeless satire that feels just as relevant today as it did when it first premiered.

🎭 "In enterprise of martial kind, when there was any fighting..." 🎭

Well, there hasn't been much fighting, but there has certainly been a lot of silence! 😆

You may be wondering where have we gone?! After disappearing more completely than the true King of Barataria, we thought it was about time we emerged from our royal seclusion to reassure everyone that we're still very much here.

And because we clearly haven't had enough of it, we're bringing back our last production for ONE FINAL PERFORMANCE.
