SINGING PROUD IS 5! Happy Birthday to us!

To celebrate our turning 5, we gathered for an evening picnic. It was lovely to meet up at the end of a summer break, share food, have a catch up, play a game of Table Tennis (which, it turns out, is not really in our skill set!) and for some, cuddle a chicken! Best of all, despite a rainy day, the evening weather was kind to us.

Thank you to AMC Gardens - Arkwright Meadows Community Gardens for accommodating us!

We are looking forward to restarting our rehearsals on Thursday (3rd September), which is our New Members evening, so if you’ve ever thought about joining us- this week, is your opportunity, so see you there!

Today, our hearts are with everyone in Berlin following the tragic events at yesterday's Christopher Street Day Pride.
What should have been a day of joy, visibility and celebration became one of heartbreak. We mourn the life that was lost, hold those who were injured and affected in our thoughts, and stand in unwavering solidarity with Berlin's LGBTQ+ community.
Pride has always been more than a celebration. It is an act of courage, community and hope. Moments like these remind us why we continue to raise our voices together.
From all of us at Singing Proud LGBT+ Choir: we send our love, our strength and our solidarity to our siblings in Berlin. We stand with you today and always.
Love is stronger than hate. Our voices will not be silenced. 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️🕊️

In the words of Katy Rose Bennett - music, who commissioned our very own song, following a fabulous work shop (see videos from previous post)- It’s not just about the singing, it’s a chance to be together and proud!

Our trip to Brussels was an incredible opportunity to spend time together, strengthen our friendships and have a bloody good time - all in 30+ degrees (air conditioning is for the weak 😆)

Forever memories have been created!

Well, what a fabulous trip to Brussels 🇧🇪 to take part and experience our first Various Voices Choir Festival.

We have come such a long way in the four (or is it five?) years that Singing Proud have existed. A community LGBTQ+ choir, formed at the tale end of COVID, initially having to sing in face masks. Look at us now! Around 60 members, 43 of which travelled to Various Voices, performing alongside well over a hundred other choirs - we even performed at the ING arena! Did we enjoy it? Did we ever! We laughed a lot, we sang a lot (and we may have enjoyed the occasional cold beer and/or ice cream - it was a heat wave after all).

Looking forward to the next Various Voices in 2030, set to be held on home turf, in Brighton. I just know that we will have plenty more opportunities to sing and to have fun together between now and then!
