As promised, here's a basic workflow of the NN14 pistol, from 3D to Airbrush to display case.
I've been putting the 3D printers to work with small props and terrain pieces lately, and for hard surface models like this I'll start in a CAD program to get a good quality model for manufacturing, one that can make best use of the printer plate size.
Once they were printed, there's a little cleanup before priming, filling and painting the base coat. In total there were two coats of Tamiya primer, then a black layer with AK Metal Stainless Steel over the top.
Then I used Humbrol weathering powder, black acrylic washes and Rub & Buff Silver paste to finish it off. Transparent Tamiya colours were airbrushed over the barrel for the heat tinting.
I have got a revised version of the whole thing which adds a couple of extra printed parts but makes for an easier build with less layer lines on the body, which I may well make next, although
up next are a dice tumbler and various terrain pieces that will be resin cast from moulds, as well as a huge (huge) snowspeeder that may have to hang from the ceiling..?!?!
