This year has been THE most challenging for me emotionally, physically, spiritually and mentally. In July this year after a long and courageous battle with cancer, my beloved dad passed away at the age of 71.
My dad was about as heroic as they come. EVERY time I needed him, he was there. My steadfast, my safety and my compass here on Earth. He was that to most people who knew him. Loveable, stubborn, kind and more generous than anyone probably ever knew.
I write this heartbroken as we are experiencing this magical time of year in grief and sadness that he doesn’t get to be here creating magic with us. But my heart is blended with a mixed feeling of joy and pain as I watch my 18 month old daughter grow, learn, laugh, play and adventure but knowing she will never get to do those things with her amazing grandad.
But for right now, for this moment right here, I wanted to share how thankful I am that my dad was my dad. I miss him. I wish i could talk to him. I wish i could cuddle him. But time for those things have expired.
Remember this Christmas time, amongst all of the stress and anxiety, that love and time are the best gifts you could give. Because what I know now is, and what I thank God for, is that love is what we are left with and time is what we wish we had more of.
