Rent-A-Center’s store network includes more than 400 U.S. locations run by franchisees who seek to build ties with rent-to-own customers in their surrounding communities. The company recently teamed with localized marketing platform SOCi to help those business owners with software tools to engage consumers in online-to-offline efforts.

As much as pandemic lockdowns led to a surge in e-commerce, many consumers still appreciate businesses with a nearby brick-and-mortar location. More than half (61%) of multilocation marketers surveyed by SOCi at the height of the health crisis said their physical locations had a significant role in generating revenue, and 66% said they expected that to continue, underscoring the need for marketing — both analog and digital — that targets local markets.

Despite recession concerns, several industries have increased their ad spend in 2022, including media and entertainment, technology, travel and education and training, according to a report by MediaRadar shared with Marketing Dive.
Numerous industries saw a drop in advertising spend in the first half of this year, including finance, home furnishings, restaurants and bars, alcohol and pet supplies.
The shift in advertising spend reflects changing consumer habits and priorities as the COVID-19 pandemic may no longer be the biggest market concern and driver. Fears of a recession and rampant inflation have seen industries such as restaurants and home furnishing prepare to be impacted.

Busch Light, owned by Anheuser-Busch InBev, released step-by-step instructions on how to create an acoustic guitar out of a 30-pack of the beer, per details shared with Marketing Dive.
The guitar was designed in partnership with Logan Elliott, who is known for crafting guitars out of everyday objects. The move celebrates Busch Light’s entry into the country music space as the official beer sponsor of Country Music Association’s CMA Fest.
The brewer is also hosting a social media contest between Aug. 9 and Aug. 11 where fans can share their favorite Busch Light and country music themed memory using a hashtag for the chance to win a Busch Light guitar signed by country artist Jordan Davis.

Instagram this year will maintain its spot as the No.1 platform for influencer marketing amid growing competition from social video app TikTok. Marketers in the U.S. this year will spend $2.23 billion on influencer marketing on Instagram, ahead of $948 million on Google’s YouTube and $774.8 million on TikTok, per estimates by Insider Intelligence shared with Marketing Dive.

As TikTok continues to capture a bigger share of spending on influencer marketing, it’s predicted to overtake Facebook this year and YouTube by 2024. Marketer usage of TikTok for influencer marketing already exceeds that for YouTube, Inside Intelligence found.

Nano-influencers, or internet personalities with fewer than 5,000 followers, make up the fastest-growing segment of spending on influencer marketing with an increase of 220.5% this year, per the Insider Intelligence findings. That growth rate is about eight times as much as the 28% rise in total spending on influencer marketing to $4.99 billion this year.

Criteo said this week that it completed its previously announced acquisition of Iponweb. The final price tag was $250 million, which is $130 million less than had been projected at the end of 2021, when the deal was in its initial stages.

The acquisition brings with it Iponweb’s media-trading marketplace, demand-side platform and supply-side platform, enabling Criteo to ramp up its commerce media strategy and provide easier management of first-party data.

“Together with Iponweb, we expect to have significant scale and differentiated first-party data capabilities to meet the fast-growing demand for commerce and retail media solutions on the open internet,” said Criteo CEO Megan Clarken in a statement.

Criteo this week also reported that its Q2 2022 revenue totaled $495 million, down 10% year-over year.

Molson Coors brand Miller Lite introduced a “Grill Share” program that includes local pop-up stations and nationwide giveaways, according to a press release. The effort was created by DDB Chicago.
At Grill Share stations in New York and Chicago, consumers can reserve a Miller Lite Grill and spatula, apron, folding beach chair with umbrella and $25 gift card, either by signing up online or scanning a QR code. Consumers can then unlock and roll their grill to a nearby spot.
In addition, Miller Lite is giving away branded grills via a microsite from Aug. 8 to Aug. 19. The campaign is inspired by research shared by the brand that 30% of U.S. households don’t have a grill and comes after other summer-related stunts from Molson Coors.
