📢 Exciting news!!

Along with six other artists (all about half my age 😅), I have been invited to join The Guild under the umbrella of Arts Collective (formerly NN Contemporary). The programme runs from March to December 2026, and includes artist professional development via 1:1 mentoring, shared studio space, opportunities to engage with the community and collaboration with other artists. I was excited enough to be awarded the opportunity and even more so after meeting the other artists at the induction day today - what an enthusiastic group of people! I'm just so chuffed... 😀

Really enjoying working though some exercises on a course with Claire Benn, referencing work by Denise Lach, both artists working with text and calligraphy. Very enjoyable and inspiring me with new ideas to incorporate text into my work... My "phrase" for the course is the title of a favourite piece of music by Christopher Tin.

Any questions? Ask away... 😊

Went to Lamport Hall today to see the snowdrops and to visit the Northants & Rutland Open Studios Spring Exhibition - tomorrow (15th Feb) is the last day! Well done to Katie Boyce and team for curating another lovely show. Entry is free to the exhibition. Free parking, a few pounds to view the snowdrops and support beautiful Lamport Hall.

Spending the next six months working on Louise Fletcher - Art's Momentum course. My focus is working on expressing emotion (primarily grief) through colour. I may adapt this idea slightly depending how I find it. I originally thought I might explore monochromatic pieces, but then decided that now I have more colour theory under my belt, it's time to put it into practise - how do artists affect the viewer's emotions through use of colour? I am already discovering that there are other aspects, such as the use of mark-making and doubtless other things will crop up in the course of this exploration....

Of course, these are not finished paintings, but exercises to explore ideas and to develop skills.

Northants & Rutland Open Studios has a Spring Exhibition on at Lamport Hall the first two weekends in February (dates and times in the post below). I'm not exhibiting this time, but have plenty of friends that are. Exhibition entry is free, though the snowdrop walk is ticketed. There's also a nice pub nearby for pie and a pint after, or coffee and cake in the courtyard cafe... 🥰

Snowdrop Walk
7th & 8th and 14th & 15th February, 10am-3pm

Tickets available now from our website!

Seeing a swathe of snowdrops is one way to brighten the winter months. These little white beauties create quite a display in the gardens. Enjoy a stroll around the gardens and venture into the woodland, admiring the spring bulb display.

There will be free drop-in storytelling sessions for children in the stables from Standing in the Wings at 11am, 12pm, 1pm and 2pm.

Our gift shop will be open selling spring-themed gifts, cards, and souvenirs.

Over both weekends, Northants and Rutland Open Studios are holding a Spring Open Exhibition which will be on display in the Carriage House and artists creating art live in the gardens. NROS bring together a range of high quality contemporary art from emerging & established artists in the region. The exhibition will show the diversity of current artistic practice in painting, print, textiles, sculpture & new media.

The Stables Cafe will be open serving hot and cold drinks and delicious homemade cakes and other sweet treats as well as soup, savoury bites and sausage rolls.

Parking will be in 4 acre field located in the villages on the junction towards Old. Event parking will be clearly signposted.

Tickets will be available to purchase on the day (cash and card accepted) or in advance.

Adults (16+): £5.00

Under 16: Free

Historic Houses members: Free

Well-behaved dogs welcome on leads. Please note this is an outdoor event, please dress accordingly for the weather. The gardens and stables are accessible for wheelchairs and prams, however paths are mostly gravel or natural and may be muddy (especially in the woodland) which may make it difficult for wheels.

Please note the Hall will be CLOSED at this event.
