🎨 Meet the Artist: Louise Beams�Devon-based | Self-taught | Expressive landscape artist
Originally from London and now based in Devon, Louise Beams is a self-taught artist whose creativity has always been at the heart of her life. Her artistic journey has evolved through a spirit of constant exploration, working across line and wash watercolour, acrylic, and printmaking to express the beauty and atmosphere of the West Country.
Drawing inspiration from the landscapes, architecture, and landmarks of Dartmoor and beyond, Louise’s work captures a deep connection to place. Her recent acrylic series takes a bold step away from tradition, she paints not with brushes, but with repurposed plastic store cards, using their edges to sweep colour, layer texture, and embrace the spontaneity of the moment.
This playful and instinctive technique allows her to focus on mood and movement rather than precise detail, creating pieces that radiate energy and imagination, each one a reflection of how the landscape feels rather than how it looks.
