Charlie Smyth RIP
On behalf of everyone in the Bosco and the Bosco Drama Group we would like to express our sincere condolences to Pauline, Patricia, Deirdre, Martin, Ciaran and all of Charlie’s family and friends on his passing.
Charlie was a member of the Bosco long before the current incarnation of the Drama Group. With Sean Canavan RIP and Sean Hollywood RIP, Charlie performed and directed numerous shows and pantomime for the Bosco. Charlie selflessly shared his talent and passion for comedy, theatre and music. He saw the value of theatre skills for all regardless of age, wealth or cultural backgrounds.
As a performer Charlie had an innate comedic sense of timing. As a director he was always keen to share his talents encouraging young and old to develop their skills. Charlie valued talent from all quarters and helped everyone find their niche. On stage, backstage, technical or front of house, you would be welcomed and valued.
A bright light in our theatre world has gone out. We have lost a legend who shared his passion with us all.
We extend our deepest condolences to Charlie’s family, the members of Newry Musical Society of which he was President, the Panto Players, his second family, Newpoint Players and all the arts and theatre groups where he inspired people young and old.
A few years ago we were fortunate to have Charlie as a cabinet member in the Bosco Drama Group’s production of “Annie”. He shared that stage with another legend, Wesley Livingstone, who is also sadly missed. We have no doubt that whilst Charlie is now reunited with his beloved wife, Kathleen and his talented brother Jimmy, he will also be greeted at the pearly gates by Wesley and both Sean Hollywood and Sean Canavan.
There will be lots of laughter in heaven tonight.
