Do We Really Need Another -ism?

For some time now, I have been asking myself a simple question. Do we really need another ideology? History teaches us that almost every great idea began with the promise of making the world better. Liberalism, socialism, conservatism, nationalism, capitalism, as well as religious and philosophical movements, all were born from the desire to improve human life. Yet history also teaches something else. The greatest danger does not begin when an idea is born. It begins when the idea stops serving the human person and demands that the human person serve the idea. This, in my view, is the real dividing line. I am no longer interested in asking which narrative will prevail.

I ask instead: will the human being, after its victory, still be treated as a person, or merely as a means to an end? Perhaps this question is more important than who is right, and I hope it can invite readers to reflect.

The tragedy of ignorance lies in losing sight of the meaning of the Decalogue.

The problem is not a lack of information, but an inability for values to take root. We increasingly confuse freedom with license, success with integrity, cunning with deceit, and pragmatism with the abandonment of principles.

The Decalogue can be read not only through a religious lens but also as a set of principles rooted in life, truth, and human dignity. When these foundations weaken, the meanings of words easily shift: a lie becomes a strategy or marketing ploy; greed masquerades as ambition. This is particularly significant when it involves people of influence and power.

Society has the right to expect not merely optional conduct but moral responsibility from its elites. Competence devoid of principles weakens the community. Before pointing fingers at others, it is worth asking oneself: do I live by the principles I expect others to follow?

As the Greek saying goes: "The fool demands from others; the wise demand from themselves." Perhaps true moral education begins right there—not by lecturing others, but by working on oneself.
