Zine Fest is happening TOMORROW!! Please bring cash if possible! Most tablers accept card but there are a few who will be cash only so it’s worth bringing some dosh along. Nearest cash machines to are at the Today’s Local shop a few doors down on Warwick St and also a Tesco Express around the corner.

Alongside selling their zines, a lot of the tablers will have baskets on their stalls for money-free trades! So bring along your artwork, zines, objects, or offer your time/skills for trades! You can also trade with each other!

TRADING SYSTEM! Ok we are trying something out here so help us see how it works! As well as being able to buy zines from the zine market, we are setting up a trade system so that you can also swap for stuff without using money.

Lots of the tablers at the zine market will have baskets on their tables with things in that they are willing to trade without involving money. So bring along what you can offer - it could be artwork, zines, trinkets, objects, plants, flowers, stories, time, skills, recipes, food, teaching new skills, clothes, art materials - whatever you think would be a nice or worthy exchange!

You can also trade with other visitors - we will give stickers to those who are up for trades so you know who to trade with! Or you could also just speak to each other - that would work too!

We would love to gather a sense of what sort of things people are trading so if you get any lovely, interesting, unusual trades from the event please let us know on here or on the day!

ZINE MARKET! This Sunday at Newcastle Zine Fest we have loads going on, not least a zine market with about 40 zine sellers/makers. Bring cash if you can, as although most tablers will take card, a few are cash only.

We have two ace drop in workshops running at Zine Fest on Sunday!

11:30am - 1:30pm will be running a zine-making drop in session - come and learn some paper folds to make a zine from one piece of paper, and spend some time making zines!

1:30pm - 3pm Mollie of .milk.zine will be running a Frankenzine session - come and create a page to contribute to part of one big collective zine!

No experience necessary and all drop in sessions are free! Come anytime during the session times and get making!

The workshops will be in the art room - turn right when you first enter and it is just opposite the cinema room.

Hooray cafe is open for Zine Fest on Sunday! Zine Fest will be going from 11am-3pm and you can get cafe treats from 12-4pm. As well as the many various cuppas available, there will be vegan goodies such as lentil pasties, mushroom rolls, flapjacks, brownies, etc. There are even whispers of a potential SOUP! Pray to the soup gods for the bean soup to appear, if bean soup is your kind of thing 🙏🏻 (note soup not guaranteed, but cuppas and nice Star and Shadow cafe volunteers 100% guaranteed).

Phew! We’re finally getting caught up after a hectic couple of weeks - and it’s all looking very good and very exciting!!

We’ve got some amazing tablers booked in for the market, some lovely workshops taking shape, and a few extra surprises too!

So happy to share this ace poster made for us by .by.megan_ as a response to the brief we gave the Illustration degree students at Newcastle College - now we’ve got the plans sorted, we need people to come! So please share the zine fest posters to your stories, with friends, and repost whenever you can!

There is also an Eventbrite event so please do search it up if you use that and share those too! Thanks folks!
