Introducing our timpanist, Chris Childs, whose wonderful “Jingle Tell Overture” will be premiered as part of our upcoming Christmas concert on 14th December:

Chris took up the violin for a hobby in his mid 20s, and playing in classical orchestras has been his main passion ever since. More recently, he taught himself how to play timpani and enjoys performing on both instruments – just not at the same time. Despite not having any training or qualifications Chris has an interest in orchestration and musical arranging, and enjoys coming up with fun alternative versions of well-known music. WCO has previously performed two of Chris’s pieces, and our upcoming Christmas Concert will see the premiere of his Jingle Tell Overture – a Christmassy take on Rossini’s famous William Tell Overture!

Professionally, Chris works as both a freelance graphic designer and a Cake Artist, where he makes highly decorated themed novelty cakes (). Fun fact: Chris has very recently become a licensed Zumba instructor and plans to hold regular classes in the South West London area! 🕺

Meet our soloist for this term, Anthony! 📯🎵

He will be playing mvts. 1 and 2 of Saint-Saëns' Morceau de Concert in our Summer Concert on Saturday 5th July at 2:30pm.

Anthony is a Physics teacher, and outside work he plays the euphonium in traditional brass bands. He joined WCO as a euphonium player before switching to French horn, and when asked to choose a solo piece he went for the Saint-Saëns as it includes the whole orchestra.

We're really enjoying rehearsing Anthony's piece and we can't wait to perform together in the concert. See you there! 🎻🎺🎶
