because there can't be too many spaces to celebrate, interrogate and archive the incredibly rich and diverse art practice of the african diaspora in britain. in 2015 i started the instagram page as a curatorial exercise to research and amplify and bridge the scattered source of info and practice that I'd encountered online...it's only just begun and i look forward to building this with your help!

(b. 1984, London) has exhibited, performed and presented projects within the UK and internationally. Achiampong is a recipient of the Stanley Picker Fellowship (2020), the Paul Hamlyn Foundation’s Award for Artists (2019) and he is a Jarman Award-nominated artist (2018 & 2021).

Recent projects by include commissions with The Line, London; De la Warr Pavilion; the Liverpool Biennial 2021 and Art on the Underground, Roundel designs for TfL Westminster, London (2019). Recent solo exhibitions include Relic Traveller: Where You and I Come From, We Know That We Are Not Here Forever, Phi Foundation for Contemporary Art, Montreal (2021). Achiampong currently serves on the Board of Trustees at Iniva (Institute of International Visual Arts). He completed a BA in Mixed Media Fine Art at University of Westminster in 2005 and an MA in Sculpture at The Slade School of Fine Art in 2008.

From October 2022 MK Gallery will be presenting a major solo exhibition by British-Ghanaian artist Larry Achiampong. Working in film, sculpture, installation, sound, collage, music and performance, Achiampong draws on popular culture and his communal and personal heritage to explore post- colonial and post-digital identity, and the deeply entrenched inequalities in contemporary society.

Just Leaving, 2022, Oil on linen by represented by •

Well dressed figures who appear to be captured in a moment of both tension and suspicion are depicted as they say their goodbyes. Despite not knowing the relationships between the figures, we are invited by Long to gaze and engage with moment that she has so beautiful captured.

This exploration of social interaction and the hidden psychology of the world that we live in is a running theme in Longs work.
