You can actually attend a burial and politely decline food if you don't feel like eating. The food will simply be given to the next person.
So why are some people criticizing those who ate at Alex's burial?
People have been cooking and serving food at burials for years, and that is not going to stop now.
Have you considered those who travelled from far places just to pay their last respect?
What about the people who stayed with the family for days, helping out and supporting them through the difficult period? What do you expect them to eat?
And the family members themselves, do you think they won't eat because they are grieving?
The truth is that hunger does not know who is mourning and who is not. Grief doesn't stop the body from needing food.
When hunger comes knocking, people will eat. It doesn't mean they don't care about the deceased or that they are not saddened by the loss. Life simply has a way of continuing, even in moments of sorrow.
