A day late for World Mustang Day… but these horses mean far too much to me to let it pass unnoticed. 🤎
The wild mustang has become one of the most powerful and recurring subjects in my work.
They are iconic, symbols of freedom, resilience, strength and survival. But perhaps what draws me to them most is what they represent.
In a world where we seem increasingly determined to control, contain and manage everything around us, there is something incredibly poignant about a wild horse.
A creature asking for nothing more than the freedom to exist as nature intended.
To roam. To choose. To belong to its family. To simply be wild.
And yet the sad reality is that this freedom is increasingly fragile. America’s wild mustangs face round-ups, removal from their ranges, separation from their herds and uncertain futures.
That contrast, between what the mustang represents and the reality it faces, is something I find incredibly powerful, and it’s why I keep returning to them in my paintings.
I don’t just see strength when I look at these horses. I see sensitivity, loyalty, family, connection and an extraordinary determination to survive.
It’s also why key pieces within my portfolio support Skydog Sanctuary and their work rescuing, reuniting and advocating for wild mustangs.
For me, this is exactly what Art with Purpose means.
Painting something because it moves me, telling its story through my work, and hopefully helping in some small way to protect what inspired the painting in the first place.
Because some things were never meant to be tamed. 🤎
