HAARLEM ARTSPACE — OPEN STUDIOS
This September, Haarlem Artspace opens its studio doors as part of the Wirksworth Festival Arts Trail, offering visitors the opportunity to step beyond the gallery walls and into the working spaces of the artists who make up its creative community.
Across the studios, discover a wide range of approaches, materials and ideas — from painting, drawing and photography to printmaking, jewellery, assemblage and sound. See artists at work, explore the processes behind their practices and experience Haarlem Artspace as a living, working environment.
This year’s Open Studios brings together Sophie Cartmell, Amanda Graham, Amanda Nichol, Diana Green, Fiona Allen, Gunther Walker, Kasra Jalilapour, Martin Lowe, Pat McCabe, Peter Knight, Rebecca Gallagher, Rose Kindred-Boothby, Ruth Cox, Tricia Rice and Gavin Muschamp.
Working across varied disciplines and perspectives, each artist brings their own distinctive voice to the Haarlem Artspace community. Visitors will encounter work at different stages of development — from new ideas, experiments and works in progress to more finished pieces — offering an insight into the breadth and variety of creative activity taking place within the studios.
Open Studios is also a chance to connect: with artists, with different creative practices, and with the work being made within Haarlem Artspace. Take your time, ask questions, discover new work and meet the people behind it.
By opening up these normally private working spaces, the event offers an informal and direct way to engage with contemporary creative practice and to experience the energy of a community of artists working side by side.
