My trusty steed was in for an MOT today so whilst it was there I went for a lovely stroll around the outside of the cathedral and through the gardens.
Parked the courtesy car and stepped out on to Nettleham Road,
Sky blue and sun shining,
The sweet smell of the Lime Trees drifting in the air as I strolled towards the cathedral
A school trip arriving, children excited getting off the bus, joyfully disturbing the peaceful hush,
How excited they were to be out exploring, reminding me of my TA days and how wonderful school trips were.
A young blackbird lay on top of the ruin at the front of the Lincoln Hotel sunbathing sprawled out as wide as it could make itself as if no one was watching it.
Jackdaws were calling to each other above the cathedral and a robin sat singing hidden in a tree.
Then suddenly an awful noise from the peregrine falcon as the jackdaws bombarded him or was it an angry noise from the jackdaws, who won the battle I do not know as they dropped down the other side of the cathedral.
As I walked through the garden the flowers were all looking beautiful in the sunshine, the bright yellow mullein, the lilac of the lavender, the bright green lady’s mantle, geraniums in pink and white, the roses in their yellows and pinks to name just a few.
I was watched by a feral pigeon sat in an archway as I watched a box tree moth on a rosemary bush, I wonder who was watching the pigeon watching me watching the moth 😁
As I walked further round the garden the sweet scent of the lime trees drifted into the air again and the sound of the water fountain took over the microphone on the centre stage with all the glorious colourful floral costumes surrounding it.
I left this wonderful party to carry on in its own delightful way and wandered to the shops to see what other treats awaited me whilst I whiled away the time on this beautiful sunny day
