Looking back I’m not so sure
What all the wandering was for
Spending all I could afford
On this and that (you’d be appalled).
About my soul–if I’d have thought
That I was loved, was so adored
By one above, a heavenly Lord
My restless heart could have been moored
And not have drifted more and more
Chasing dreams for evermore
Craving all that my eyes saw
Lying breathless on some shore.
If I recalled what I’d been taught
Your life for mine, and what it brought
Your loveliness was what I sought–
To save my soul you stopped at naught.

Is this you? You should pick up a pen. ❤️

You were kind,
and for this
my day passed more easily.
Words -
that can fall sharply
and wound
or land softly
and bless -
are best chosen with care
and not impetuously.
Your words seemed to smile
from the page -
and though I have likely
passed forever
from your mind,
the imprint of your kindness
will long remain
in mine.

This.

Wife jeans

Why do they sell
Girlfriend jeans
And mom jeans
But not wife jeans?
One pair for the young
Slim
And carefree
One pretending to be
For the older and
Slightly more curvy
But always modelled
By the same teenager
Who wears each
Like she hasn’t a care
In the world

What about the jeans
For the maritally content?
The not-going-anywhere
Make-his-dinner
Remember-the-appointments
Feed-the-kids
And-the-cat jeans?
The eventually-realise-there
Are-holes-worn-in jeans you had
For the last 10 years
And somehow they still fit so they stayed?
Just-pretend-it’s-fashionable
And-keep-going jeans

Those jeans –
Don’t worry I think I have them
