Looking back I’m not so sure
What all the wandering was for
Spending all I could afford
On this and that (you’d be appalled).
About my soul–if I’d have thought
That I was loved, was so adored
By one above, a heavenly Lord
My restless heart could have been moored
And not have drifted more and more
Chasing dreams for evermore
Craving all that my eyes saw
Lying breathless on some shore.
If I recalled what I’d been taught
Your life for mine, and what it brought
Your loveliness was what I sought–
To save my soul you stopped at naught.
