A little Sunday stitching... 🧵☕

There's something wonderfully peaceful about embroidery.

Needle in.

Needle out.

One stitch at a time.

No rushing.

No need to finish today.

Just the quiet satisfaction of watching something take shape.

If you're spending a little time sewing today, I'd love to know:

And are you a "tidy sewing table" person or a "creative chaos everywhere" person? Ask my husband which I am!!!

"a patient teacher." ❤️

This seem to come up in my workshop reviews time and time again.

And it's something I take seriously.

When I'm teaching, I don't want anyone to feel rushed, embarrassed about asking questions, or worried that they're "not good at sewing."

There is no race.

I take time to explain things clearly, demonstrate techniques carefully and break projects down into manageable steps.

That's also why I spend so much time writing my instructions.

My aim is that when you get home, you can look at the instructions and think:

"Yes. I know what I'm doing."

Because creative confidence is just as important as learning the technique.

Have you ever had a teacher who made you feel particularly confident?

Have you ever tried stitching on paper?

If you've only ever embroidered fabric, paper embroidery might sound a little strange!

The stitches are the same but some of techniques are a little different.

A sheet of paper becomes your canvas. With a needle, thread and a little patience, you can turn it into something wonderfully tactile.

I love the combination of paper, thread, colour and pattern.

And there's something very satisfying about watching a design slowly emerge stitch by stitch.

It's also wonderfully portable—which is where my wild sewing comes in! 😉

Would you give paper embroidery a try?

Hello, I'm Sam. I'm an artist, teacher and author specialising in paper embroidery.

Over the next couple of weeks I'm going to reintroduce myself and tell you a little bit more about everything that I do.

I love showing people that embroidery doesn't have to mean sitting at home with a huge sewing basket beside you.

Paper embroidery is portable, calming and wonderfully creative. You can take it with you almost anywhere—and I have!

I'm going to share some of my work, creative tips, behind-the-scenes moments, and a little bit of my wild sewing adventures.

If you enjoy stitching, paper crafts, making things with your hands, or simply having a creative hobby that is just for you, I'd love you to follow along. ❤️

And tell me in the comments: what are you making at the moment?

Wild sewing with an Anglo Saxon ship. This is being build in The Longshed in Woodbridge by . They are a charity and work with volunteers, they are using traditional tools and authentic materials. It’s fantastic to see how far they have come and to watch the project develop.
