📝 PlayMakers Masterclass: Theatre in Translation with Daniel Millar

Join playwright Daniel Millar for a practical and entertaining session that looks at how foreign-language scripts are adapted and presented to a modern, English-speaking theatre audience.

If you're interested in finding out how theatre in translation works, then this Masterclass is for you! Using examples from literature, theatre and film, this session will explore how best to engage an English audience with a translated script, and look at a hands-on approach to how to get from a 'literal' translation to a finished, audience-ready product.

Paid writing opportunity from Theatre by the Lake 👇✍️ Theatre by the Lake are thrilled to be working in co-production with Pentabus Theatre to present the brilliant new drama, Jacaranda, from award-winning playwright Lorna French, exploring loss, love, prejudice, race and belonging. Working with @AntiRacistCumbria we would like to invite expressions of interest specifically from Black and Brown writers living in Cumbria who are interested in writing a short response to the play. Due to the content of the show this opportunity is open to writers aged 14+ and of any experience level. This response wouldn't be a review, but instead would be something creative; a poem, a story, a personal essay or letter, something more journalistic, or something else that doesn't appear on this list! Two writers will be offered a complimentary ticket to the production at Theatre by the Lake on Friday 12 November, along with travel costs and a £150 fee for their time. Their creative responses will then be published as a blog on the Theatre by the Lake, Anti Racist Cumbria, and Pentabus websites. To apply, please email Claire Dunk (Programme Administrator) [email protected].com with a maximum of 300 words telling us a little about yourself and what interests you about the opportunity (we understand that your approach may change having seen the show!) by 5pm on Thursday 4th November. All writers will be contacted by Tuesday 9 November. The final deadline for creative responses from writers is Friday 19 November. If you have any questions please drop Claire a line!
