What happens when a ‘poet’ in Paris and an ‘artist’ in Manchester create together?

We’ve been exploring that question through Creative Bubbles by The Randoms, bringing poetry and illustration together around love, loss, identity, memory and change.

Our latest piece shares a little more about how the collaboration grew, and where we’re taking it next.

Hearing a poem read aloud by someone else can be powerful. With the right pauses or inflections, a different voice can transform familiar lines into something really quite moving and maybe surfacing emotions that your own voice in your own head keep hidden. That got us curious about delivery. What if we made Here I Am into a female power ballad?
With no musicians or singers to had we tried out Mureka.ai and added the poem. We chose a female singer and an uplifting power ballad vibe. We were literally wowed!

While we’re not interested in using AI to either write or illustrate our work, we’re up for experimenting with new ways to share the pieces we’ve already created. We downloaded the MP3 track and paired it with a simple video we made from stock footage spliced together at the right moments or as much as we could without spending hours. All this was such an enjoyable exercise. And our creative play got us thinking again about recording ourselves reading a selection of poems. That’s been on the to-do-later list for a while.

Here I Am is for women who’ve ever felt unseen, unheard, or misunderstood, and it’s far more common than most people think. Here I am is our way of acknowledging those feelings and reminding anyone feeling that way that they’re not alone. If these words reach even one person who needs to hear them, then they’ve done what they were meant to do. We see you. We hear you. We get you! And no matter how invisible, misunderstood, or ignored you feel, you’re not alone.

We love mixing fun, exploration and creativity and honestly, when we fed one of our original into an song maker for a giggle, we weren’t expecting much. But goodness, were we wowed!

Here I Am, a poem about feeling unseen and unheard, came back as a female voice power ballad, and we absolutely love what AI did with it.

For anyone who’s ever felt invisible, this one’s for you. We see you, we hear you, sing along!

May has always carried a certain 'protest energy'. Streets fill, voices rise, people gather, and history reminds us that change often begins with someone refusing to stay silent, but at what cost?

Come and read Old Activism. Stay for the musings. Support the work if it connects with you. We've linked the poem in the comments.

Happy Saturday!

Mother's Day has a way of bringing up so many memories. A voice on the phone, a shared laugh, the comfort of knowing someone understands your story because they've helped shape it.

For both of us, life has included long periods living abroad, which meant our mums weren’t 'just up the road'. We've counted the days and weeks and months until we saw them again and that distance strengthened our bonds and made our time together even more precious.

Our latest collaboration, Mums & Daughters, reflects that love.

In the coming weeks we’ll be releasing new works to our avant première subscribers. If you’d like to join them, sign up here
https://forms.wix.com/r/7316911800073584716 We promise we won’t fill your inbox. We don’t email daily, weekly, or even monthly. Creativity (for us at least) doesn't work to a set schedule.

With our love on Mother’s Day, and a special thought for anyone missing their mum today or finding the day difficult. We hold you in our thoughts.

Natasha & Rebecca 💛

Creativity is messy, unpredictable, and often brilliant in fragments.

Our illustrated poem Creativity is for the those who start with scraps, half ideas, and that stubborn goal to make something. You will find the full poem on our website, along with our illustrated poetry collection, original poems paired with artwork, created for people who love words, art, making and taking thought to the next level.
