A drawing I did quite a while ago of #mfdoom for @lone_apostrophe
Really enjoyed throwing a bit of ink around on this one and worrying too much about the realism side of things.

What do you do with your old artwork??

Quite nice going back through some of my old drawings but would love to get them to a new home! I've thrown some that were damaged, given a couple away to people who would appreciate them and packaged the rest to protect them in storage.

I've realised that my early drawings are some of my best, back when I could spend a lot of time working on them. I've developed a much faster style now but they do lack the detail of the earlier stuff. I wonder how many hours I've invested into this hobby over the years? πŸ’πŸ»β€β™‚οΈ

Haven't worked on this for a few days so thought I'd post a pic of the progress so far.
After this, I have a couple of commissions to work on which I'm looking forward to 😁

Progress shots.

Just continuing to build up layers little by little. I'm not being too precise or careful, I'm trying to move away from attempting to render every single pore but give more of an impression (although I have to make the conscious effort to stop myself!).
Let me know how you think it's coming along!

Also me: the kids are asleep, I could start a new drawing! πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ

So this is layer 1 complete. I don't work in small sections like some, I like to get an overall feel for the drawing by building it up in layers.
Tonally this isn't right yet and the accuracy isn't there as I didn't really pay too much attention at this stage. I'll keep building it up until I think it's ready for the darks and the lights to hopefully make it 'pop'.
This will be put on the back burner for a little while now as I have reports to write (primary teacher woes!).

This was done with powdered charcoal and a brush.

I learnt so much from seeing the process of other artists on here and YouTube, so if you want to ask anything, please do!

Look who managed to pick up a pencil over Easter! 🀣
It's been a little while so I thought I'd do something quite small scale and not too labour intensive. Have been meaning to draw a lion for a while.
This is in charcoal and white pastel and has taken roughly 4 hours so far πŸ‘

I've never found a specific path with my art so maybe I'm destined to jump between styles forever πŸ€·πŸ»β€β™‚οΈπŸ˜.

My latest landscape. Tried to add a bit more detail in the clouds with some white gouache. Thought I'd also pop a few sheep in for good measure too 😁.
Don't know about you, but the countryside always cheers me up!

All these are available to purchase. DM for details.

I also have 3 commission slots available before Christmas for portraits / pet portraits etc. So if you're thinking of a unique, bespoke piece of art for a loved one (or even for yourself), get in touch as these will fill up quickly! πŸ‘

Quick wild flower meadow painting. Again, no reference used, just made up 😁. If you've never tried just 'winging' a picture, I'd highly recommend it! After years of getting frustrated trying to get every minute detail spot on, it really is quite refreshing.

Have to admit, I love this πŸ˜‚. Will definitely be exploring the minimal landscapes a little more. Also, it may be the only piece of art I've ever done that has no reference photo, purely my imagination.

Haven't felt like sitting down for weeks on end drawing lots of details for a while now, so I picked up some unused watercolours and paper and just experimented. It was really fun and didn't take long at all. I think I might just have a play around with this medium when I get a chance over the next few weeks. I'm sure I'll return to the more photo like drawings eventually, just need to be a bit more creative 😁. What do you think?

A playful portrait of Ziggy. Probably the last portrait I do in a while. Thinking about changing what I do completely. May look at smaller scale, less realistic, simpler images in the hope that I'm able to have a better family/work/hobby balance.
Always open for commissions every now and then however πŸ˜‰

Anyone who is battling leukemia (or any disease like it) is a superhero...a real superhero. It's awful and shouldn't happen to anyone, especially young children.
This boy is in my class and has taken everything it has thrown at him (and more) and is still smiling, so when his mum asked me to draw him as a superhero...easy! In fact, I didn't need to to give him the superman torso, I just thought he'd like it and it would look cool! πŸ˜€

Recently work has been pretty crazy so I haven't managed to do much art. An extended family member however asked me to draw his new VW van...here it is!
I have to admit, I used the basic outline from something I found on Google and adjusted it slightly, added a background etc.
It was also my first time using 100% marker, so I invested in a bunch of Windsor and newton promarkers. I really enjoyed learning how to use these and will be looking for excuses to use them again!

An A3 pencil commission I can now share.
A great photo - I really enjoyed drawing this although I found the scale quite tricky as I'm used to larger images recently. I initially photoshopped the family members so they were brought closer together and brightened the image as it was a low light shot. Once the composition was figured out the rest came together nicely.

I'm calling this done. Not one of my favourite drawings if I'm honest. I think I rushed it a little as I knew I was heading back to work full time and never quite nailed the likeness in my eyes.
I'm enjoying drawing some more famous faces at the moment though, purely for practice, in the hope that one day I'll be confident enough in my skills to branch out into more original directions.

This was completely charcoal on strathmore 500 series smooth paper (going to try the vellum surface next I think as this struggled to hold multiple layers).

I'm using jakar charcoals and loving them. They were a recent discovery. Different shades of grey and an incredibly low price!

Made a start on this one recently. Thought I'd show my process so far.
I start by lightly drawing in the dark areas, then blocking in the main tones. This is the first layer. Once blocked in, I'll focus on each individual section, trying to get it as accurate as possible.
I wonder if charcoal dust is dangerous to breath in?? πŸ˜‚

Here's the finished drawings of Grogu. I'm pretty happy with this and think the green mount works well. This was mainly drawn in pencil due to the size with a little charcoal for the darker areas. A3 in total.

I've been working on a cool little triptych of the 'child' from mandalorian for a friend of mine. I have to say, I'm so glad I was asked to do this as I really wanted to draw this little dude again after my quick experiment sketch I did a few weeks ago.
Because of the scale, I'm mostly completing this in pencil (with a little charcoal for the darker areas).
I do plan on doing some short videos on the materials I use but I just haven't had time yet!
Caran d'ache grafwood pencils, cretacolor Nero extra soft pencils and conte a Paris pierre noire 3b pencils.

So this took me about 3 hours... Which for me is insanely quick! Really enjoyed not being so overly concerned with all the little details and trying to smooth everything out. Feels quite nice and sketchy. Had fun splodging on the green watercolour too which I've never done before but will be experimenting with more when I get time.

I kept the background quite light on this one so that the subject (the people) were brought forward. It's A4 so there was a lot of intricate detail to fit in a relatively small space which was quite a challenge - I love the end result though.
The background was mainly drawn with grey faber castel polychromos pencil crayons, whereas the people were a combination of graphite and charcoal.
