My whole life I’d spent growing up a 26 minute train journey away from Finsbury Park. Anytime I’d jump on the Thameslink from Hitchin to King’s Cross, I’d pass the overarching Emirates stadium. Bergkamp, Henri, Wright and Seaman. Heroes Together passing my view and overcrowding the skyline. Slowly changing into Deller, Reuben and Rudnicks artwork of Alex Scott, Jack Wilshere and Patrick Viera and more. It was hard to ignore a team you love so much instil creative freedom and an opportunity for artists to receive recognition for all those years.
It’s now 7.30am on May 31st 2026 and I’m waking up in Stevenage with Bianca. The first time I’m going in to Finsbury Park in 22 years where 10 carriages are decorated in dominant red crested cannon supporters. We grab a quick bite to eat and make our way down to the Victoria Tavern on Holloway Road.
So many people said that live drawing the Arsenal Parade was impossible. As I set up my equipment overlooking a crowd of 1.5 million, a young boy called Matthew was standing waving a large Arteta flag screaming Louis Dunford’s North London Forever and I came to an emotional state of harmony.
I’m sure many people doubted if Matthew could stay whistling like a Hummingbird all day. I’m sure people doubted Arteta when he took the title of manager in 2019. And I’m definitely sure that in my long rein of drawing live events people have doubted my skill to draw some of the biggest moments in history.
And I became at one with it.
I met Shreena and her family. I met a mother and daughter from Milton Keynes. I met Bradley and Chris. I held hands with John, Maia and Bianca as we sang in harmony. I watched a bus full of Arteta, Saka, Eze, Rice big Gabby and all the boys raise a Premier League trophy up for us all to see. Followed in suit by Williamson, Russo, Foord and Wubben-Moy and the rest of the women’s team.
This was that exact moment. I did it. We did it. Up the Arsenal.
