"Mulligans, Deansgate - 8.8/10 (Manchester - £6.00)
After months of waiting, we were relieved of our misery, and it was good... Oh was it good!
Tucked behind the hustle and bustle of Deansgate lies an Irish jewel dressed in ruby-red attire, standing proudly on the emerald-lit corner of Southgate and Back Bridge St.
The toothless gatekeeper ushered us inside with a welcoming and surprisingly familiar grin. As we tiptoed gingerly inside, the unmistakeable cries of Knopfler's '61' stripped Fender Strat filled my ears as the pub's sound system exploded with the hound's favourite music - my pulse quickened and I began to salivate with anticipation, we had arrived.
The room was rocking with seismic energy, so much so that the pub's structural integrity was clearly compromised - I advised the landlord to invite emergency Design & Build tenders for a new roof installation, as theirs was about to be blown the f*$& off!
I had 16 here. I forgot many things, but the consistently delicious flavour of Mulligan's carefully nurtured cream remained in my memory round after round - each pint was every bit as delicious as the last.
The head was completely pure without a single bubble out of place, with a creamy, well-balanced flavour offering subtle notes of chocolate, coffee, and a superb balance of bitterness as it hit the back of the throat - I haven't had such an easy-to-drink pint of Guinness like this before, I was quite startled.
8.8/10 - the best Guinness I've ever had by some way, and potentially the best England has to offer, and possibly one of the best sporting pubs we've been to.

Brilliant bar, staff friendly and always a nice atmosphere. Shame the same can’t be said for the door staff. One especially rude, picking an argument with me whilst I was in a conversation in my group, having complied with everything he said to do. Then because I didn’t agree with him he wouldn’t let me back into the pub, having just bought a full round. Some people do need some training in dealing with people.
