Emotion in an actor’s work is a by-product of engagement with others.

When the emotion experienced by the actor becomes the focus of the actor’s attention, she is experiencing HERSELF having the emotion, rather than experiencing the partner and the scene.

The histrionic displays can be impressive, but they are a colossal red herring.

That is just not what it’s about.

If something big isn't at stake - if everything isn't at stake - why bother ? Why show up? Someone is out there dreaming and asking questions and wondering why they were born. How do I reach out to them and tell them a story? It's in the text somewhere, its in my heart and my mind somewhere, and I spend all my time and energy and love trying to find it, trying to transmit it. That's what I think acting should be.

As you can see À Rebours Theatre Company is now À Rebours Productions. We shall still be producing new theatre but 2014 will see us also move into film and other medium.

At least 2 new plays and 2 shorts being finalised for the start of the year and we shall announce more exciting, secret plans as they become more concrete...

We shall be posting casting calls on here when appropriate so please spread the word...

Semi-news:

It's looking like there will be no new play from À Rebours in 2013 but Gavin is currently drafting out not 1 but 3 short films which we hope to go into the production of by the end of the year. (1 of them by then at least!)
