Opera lovers, this one is for you… 🎭🎶

On Sunday 9 August, the Northern Chamber Orchestra returns to the
Lake District Music Summer Festival for its Festival Finale: an evening filled with some of opera’s best-loved music.

The programme includes favourites by Humperdinck, Massenet, Puccini and Verdi, before we perform Mascagni’s complete one-act opera Cavalleria Rusticana.

With a wonderful line-up of soloists and the Festival Chorus, all conducted by Stephen Threlfall, it promises to be a truly memorable evening.

Were you there when the NCO performed Philip Herbert’s Elegy in November 2024?

Written in memory of Stephen Lawrence, it was a powerful and deeply affecting work, and we were delighted that Philip joined us for the performance.

Philip’s latest composition, inspired by UN Secretary-General António Guterres’ words, “Peace is the missing piece”, will receive its world premiere in London this Friday, performed by the London Sinfonia.

Yesterday, four of our musicians brought live music to care homes in Adlington and Marple as part of our Mind Music programme.

Arbour Court shared this lovely video from a sunny — and very hot! — afternoon of music, singing and even a bit of dancing. They told us:

“Our residents enjoyed the singing along with Naomi and dancing along to the Can Can. Your performance benefitted our residents by giving meaning to songs performed and also allowing them to develop their growth and experience a different genre of live music.”

We’ll be visiting four more care homes over the next few weeks. A heartfelt thank you to our sponsor CDL Software, whose support makes these concerts possible.
