FB HATES tour posters!

Any mentions of gigs, tickets etc are buried and shown to hardly any of our brilliant (now 7k) followers.

It wants us all online scrolling forever til they prise the still glowing smartphones from our rigor mortised fingers.

But we've put too much of ourselves (and our finances) into booking a ridiculously ambitious UK tour as an independent band. We really want to pack these shows out with real life people singing along to our real life loud music in real life.

2026 has been a busy, if slightly under the radar, year for West Echo Three so far. They've played a handful of gigs, but their main focus is getting a run of three planned EPs recorded and released.

The first instalment, titled ‘West (EP1),’ comprises two previously unrecorded numbers and one previously released crowd favourite!

West Echo Three – Manchester-based duo Charlotte Winchcombe and John Mitchell – hit on a very topical subject matter in the electro/punk of ‘Glass Marble', which they describe as “a scream of rage about environmental collapse.”

It's followed by 'The World of Empty', which hits an almost breakcore beat as it tells “a story of story of despair and sacrifice.”

The final track on the EP is the acerbic look at exploitation that is ‘Hey, Do I Know You?' – a reworking of their long-time set opener that previously featured on Product #1 back in 2021. ‘West (EP1)’ is out now.

Vienna-based Elastic Skies merge the electronic and organic on 'Constant Departs,' a song that exists where land and sea meet.

The second single from their upcoming concept EP 'III,' which the band says explores Marc Augé’s theory of non-places, 'Constant Departs' is their audio imagining of the metronomic automation of a container port. Silence does a lot of work here; the synths and percussion are sparse enough to evoke the eeriness of environments where humanity is at a minimum but still a required presence.

The lead guitar can be viewed as the otherwise-unheard waves of the living sea lapping against a quayside populated by machinery and monotony; the vocals of Nora Blöchl have a fractured humanity that renders their presence distant and disembodied, all the while remaining a vital element.

It may make the pieces sound heavily conceptual, but the duo ensure that the song keeps a strong but loose orbit around a dark wave / post-punk melody to be relatable and far from abstract, evoking comparisons with Boy Harsher, La Femme, and Deux.

For a band that burnt brightly and quickly in their 80s guise, The Hardy Boys have had a long and deserved afterlife.

That is in part down to the last impact of songs like 'Wonderful Lie' and 'Dear Seamus Heaney,' but the airing of unreleased demos and new songs in the intervening decades shows The Hardy Boys were essential parts of both the C86 and 80s Scottish indie scenes.

'Famous Last Words' was written in 1989 and can be heard in demo form on 2024’s 'Montgomery Clift: Demos, Out Takes and Live Takes' digital compilation and will be heard again on vinyl thanks to the band’s' Last Train Home' LP.

The winsome jangle and sweet innocence of the vocals don’t distract from the poetic nature of the lyrics or the fire they contain. Savage wit delivered with a smile, it does send us back to a time when indie music was intelligent and insightful, able to be complex while sending a clear message. It’s wonderful to hear that once again. Like The Wedding Present, The Pale Fountains, and early Orange Juice? Well, delve into the back catalogue of The Hardy Boys and find yourself some new memories.

As to the unsparing lyrics, the band discloses, “'Famous Last Words' is a story about a small town and all of the people who think you’re arrogant because you won’t stay in its smothering grasp.”

Comprising Gwen Osmond on vocals and visuals, and Doug Gordon on synths, beats, and music production, Trianglecuts adapt some of the classic signature sounds of post-punk and dark wave and propel them to the darkest corners of the dancefloor on on the album, yet there is no escaping that what makes the album such a vital listening experience is the quality of the lyrics and the way the duo wraps them within vocals and soundscapes that are highly atmospheric and intensely emotive.

If the first half of the album is about subconscious self-indulgence in the dance, the latter half is post-climactic. Love and desire, possibly even lust, remain, but I can’t help but thinking that a price has been demanded for our pleasure, and this is where we must pay.

Trianglecuts play Wharf Chambers in Leeds for on Friday, the 7th of August.

While Carrellee will be familiar to many as a touring member of IAMX, though Chris Corner’s strikingly inventive sonic tableau doesn’t have a strong influence on her solo work. The melody and mood of the track, one where she has collaborated with My Manifesto on writing and recording duties, nod towards industrial and rock, but 'Edge of Heaven' is electronica at its most ardent and atmospheric.
