MMU Poetry Society and Short Fiction Creation Society are proud to present their
2022 Anthology Showcase and in the second half, END OF YEAR OPEN MIC NIGHT!

Grab a FREE ticket and meet us on Friday 10th June, 7-9PM @ The Union Conference Suite to watch a host of performances - debuted from our 1st ever printed, 2022 Anthology - and additional MMU talent in the open mic section of the evening.

Society elections

Nominations:

Ever thought about joining the committee of The Poetry Society? We are opening nominations on Tuesday 26th April at 9am on the Union website. You must be a member to nominate yourself for a position on the 22/23 committee.

Chair/Social Secretary:

The Chair of the society is the person who manages everything, from the forms and bureaucracy to the committee and members. The Chair is the face of the society and ensures everything runs smoothly. At The Poetry Society, the Chair also plans and organises all events and projects.

Treasurer/Vice-Chair:

The Treasurer of the society is the person who manages member intake, money and spending. They ensure everything is above board and monitors the incomings and outgoings of the society. At The Poetry Society, the treasurer is also the Vice-Chair, supporting the Chair and the running of the society.

Secretary:

The Secretary of the society manages and monitors our social media platforms and website, by creating and scheduling advertisement posts, responding to comments and DMs and updating the website with: newsletters, events, poems of the month and writing prompts. They are key to keeping our members informed and updated.

Voting:

Once members have nominated themselves, voting will open on Wednesday 4th May at 9am. All members of The Poetry Society will receive a link, via email, from the Union to cast their vote. The current committee will release the results on Thursday 12th May.

Open Mic Night 🎤✨

Ever wanted to read your poetry aloud? Looking to join like-minded people who also enjoy listening to poetry? Well, now you can!

Join us at Manchester Poetry Library on Tuesday 15th March, 6.30-8.00pm, to showcase your own poetry and to hear other people’s!

Don’t worry if you’re feeling nervous about performing. If you’d rather read a piece by your favourite poet, or alternatively, sit back listen to others read their’s - that’s completely okay! We encourage a safe space at The Poetry Society where you can enjoy poetry exactly as you please.

Join us on Tuesday 1st March, 6.30-8.30pm at The Union Cafe for our combined writing and feedback workshop!

Write along with the group in the first hour, as we follow writing prompts to produce a unique piece of poetry or prose. In the second hour, bring your written work to the group to receive constructive feedback on how improve it.
