I was asked to make a career advice video for a local primary school (age 4-11), so I thought I would share it here too 😅 I know the advice is a simplification, but so too is my reasons for getting into art!

It can be tough as a parent. Are you the blackbird, or the worm? How do you think other parents feel? Remember, they may also feel like the worm at times.

But also, feeling like the blackbird feels amazing! Own it! Enjoy it! You deserve it! And remember this feeling for when things get tough ❤️

There has been a recent report of a study looking at autism rates between males and females. At age 20, rates between genders are the same, showing autism isn't just restricted to boys. However, girls are diagnosed much later than boys, on average.

As a child of the 90s and 2000s, I wasn't diagnosed until age 30, and this left me feeling alone and confused about why I just didn't seem to fit in, no matter how hard I tried.

The piece of artwork is called "Overwhelm" and it is depicting internal fear and confusion, whilst appearing aggressive and standoffish from the outside as the fox tries to protect itself.

Being diagnosed is not about gaining a label. A diagnosis provides an understanding of why you think and behave differently, and it removes the self blame.

Experiencing overwhelm is not pleasent. Please be kind.

"Resilience" by Naomi Bean.

Based on a real event I witnessed outside my window on the River Soar, England.

A cormorant surfaced with an eel in its beak. The cormorant hungry, trying to swallow. The eel defiant, twisting, thrashing, trying to strangle. The river boiled with their battle. For 15 minutes the fight for survival continued. Eventually the river stilled, but only one survived. Which one?

It is a piece that speaks to the quiet reckoning that follows chaos, the stillness that comes only after life has fought to survive.

Life carries on after the storm.

It was included in the Summer Open Call "Eyes" by Exhibizone, and regularly gets comments and attention at markets.

Pleased to say I was longlisted for last year's VAO. I have just applied for this year's VAO competition and it is striking to see how much my art has developed and moved on since then. 🤞they like my more sure direction as much as I do!
