Three Misconceptions about Art!!

As an art and craft tutor, I'm met with so many misconceptions from my students, misconceptions that often stifle the creative mind, and cause us to doubt ourselves.

Here are my top three...

🎨 Art has to be pretty. Nope, it's not true. Some of the best art in the world is not actually pretty infact I feel some great art is quite ugly, to be honest. Because when it comes to art beauty is always in the eyes of the beholder. Prettiness is not a must when it comes to creating art.

🎨 Art is difficult! No No No again, it doesn't have to be. Art is as difficult as you make it. I always remind my students that your work does not have to look like vangoh or Picasso (Never ever compare your work to another artist). Your work is yours. Embrace your uniqueness.

🎨 Black and White are colours!! They are actually shades 😎 white is the absence of colour where as black is created when you combine all colours.

Now stop telling yourself you can't create a great piece of artwork. With a bit of guidance and support, you can create anything you like. Now go buy that paint set you've had your eye on, and thank me later.x

If you have a young person or work with young people who would benefit from gaining a recognised qualification in the arts, then please get in touch.

For many reasons, young people do not always access education in the traditional way (school), so gaining qualifications through other means can be essential for their future.

Many young people we work with are homeschooled, in alternative provisions, or are non school attenders.

The Arts award is a perfect way for young people to gain a qualification in the arts, whether it's in music, visual arts, creative writing, or drama.
