At Vallense, fragrance doesn’t start with a generic base. It starts with curiosity.
We create our own base distillates from scratch, giving us something far more interesting to build our fragrance ideas around. Each one already has its own character, its own complexities and, sometimes, a few surprises.
Our recent experiments with Yerba Maté are a great example.
We’ve been distilling it in ethanol under vacuum using a rotary evaporator. Working at lower temperatures allows us to uncover some really beautiful sides of the material: fresh green leaves, cut grass, dry hay, tea, soft to***co, earthy woods, gentle smoke and a subtle roasted warmth.
The result is much more than a starting material. It’s a complex base with a personality of its own.
For us, that’s where the fun begins.
We’re not starting with a blank canvas. We’re starting with something already full of ideas, then seeing where it takes us.
