Today marks Metastatic (Secondary) Breast Cancer Awareness Day.

And while most breast cancers don’t come back after treatment, it’s important to know the signs and symptoms in case they do.

Speak to your GP or breast care nurse if you have any new symptoms that:

Are new or unusual for you

Don't have an obvious cause

Don't go away

At Octobre Rose 2026, Master Michael will guide participants through a relaxing and rejuvenating Tai Chi session.

Tai Chi is an ancient Chinese martial art that combines slow, flowing movements, deep breathing, and mental focus. Often described as "meditation in motion," it is a gentle, low-impact practice suitable for people of all ages and fitness levels.

We thank Southwark Council's Black History Month Team for promoting the Octobre Rose Breast Cancer Awareness event on their page, as the main funder of our events.

This weekend, join Octobre Rose - Gabonaises du RU for a special Black History Month, Breast Cancer Awareness event at Peckham Pulse Leisure Centre.

Octobre Rose is a community initiative led by Gabonese women, supported by public health professionals, community organisations, and leisure services. They raise awareness of breast cancer through health checks, fitness, and wellbeing activities.

Each October, they deliver a community-focused health and wellbeing event which aims to increase cancer awareness, improve access to preventative health interventions, and encourage long-term engagement in healthier lifestyles.

A second event will be at Camberwell Leisure Centre on Saturday 24 October, 10am to 5pm. More information is on the group's page - see link in first comment.

Funded by the council's Black History Month grant.

Professor Elsa Nkana Josephine Ayo, Mrs Bivigou Minister of Public Health of Gabon was invited to the Pink Chair by MNA to talk about Breast Cancer Awareness Month. She's advocating for early detection and also encouraging women to do breast screenings all whilst staying active.

🎀 Wear Pink. Raise Awareness. Make a Difference. 🎀

This year, thanks to funding from the Black History Month Grant, we are proud to offer beautiful handcrafted pink ribbons made from African fabrics in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month throughout October.

The fabric features a traditional broom motif, symbolising our collective commitment to "sweep cancer away" through awareness, education, early detection, and community action.

Pink ribbons will be available for just £1 each at our Octobre Rose events on:
• 10 October 2026 – Peckham Pulse Leisure Centre
• 24 October 2026 – Camberwell Leisure Centre

Every ribbon worn is a sign of solidarity, and hope for the future.

💗 A look back at Octobre Rose 2025! 💗

As we prepare for our 2026 Breast Cancer Awareness events, we're taking a moment to reflect on the amazing community spirit, health activities, wellbeing sessions, volunteers, partners, and supporters who made last year's event such a success.

Thank you to everyone who joined us, shared our message, and has helped us raise awareness. Together, we continue to promote early detection, health education, wellbeing, and support for those in our community affected by breast cancer.

This year, we are especially proud that the Octobre Rose Breast Cancer Awareness Events have received support through the Black History Month Grant.

Black History Month is a time to celebrate the achievements, resilience, and contributions made by Black communities while also reflecting on the importance of looking after our collective health as a community.

Certain types of cancer predominantly affect Black African and Caribbean communities, including Prostate, myeloma, breast & womb cancers.

Thanks to the Black History Month Grant, we can bring our awareness events and promote healthier lifestyles to communities in which breast cancer is predominantly affecting due to their lifestyles.
