🌸 Octobre Rose 2025 & Lung Cancer Screening Programme – Community Impact 🌸
Our Octobre Rose 2025 programme was proudly funded by Southwark Council through the People Power Innovation Fund, supporting the core principles of the Joint Health & Wellbeing Strategy and Southwark 2030—working together to reduce health inequalities and promote both physical and mental wellbeing across our communities.
With the valued support of the Public Health Policy and Programme Team, we delivered a tailored outreach session focused on breast cancer awareness, alongside important education on lung cancer prevention and early detection.
We were delighted to welcome Vicky Stewart, Health Promotion Specialist, who shared vital information about the Lung Cancer Screening Programme (South East London)—a programme approved by the National Screening Committee. This initiative aims to detect lung cancer at an early stage, often before symptoms appear, improving outcomes and saving lives.
Originally launched as Targeted Lung Health Checks in October 2022 in Southwark, the programme has since expanded to Greenwich, Lambeth, and Lewisham.
✅ Residents aged 55–74 who are current or former smokers are eligible
✅ Invitations are sent every two years
✅ Current smokers are also offered free smoking cessation support
💬 Our vision is for Octobre Rose to continue evolving as a meaningful community outreach platform, where voluntary sector organisations and Public Health teams come together to engage with residents—raising awareness, encouraging open conversations around cancer, and promoting life-saving screening programmes.
Together, we can empower our community with knowledge, support, and access to vital health services. 💗
