👻 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭’𝐬 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐟𝐚𝐯𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐞 𝐇𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐞𝐧 𝐦𝐨𝐯𝐢𝐞?

Having been forced-watched (yeah, I made it a word) all kinds of blood-curdling horror films like The Exorcist, Poltergeist, Night of the Living Dead as a toddler (! 👧🏾), I’m still rather traumatised as an adult 😅.

I’d be happy never to watch any horror films the rest of my life again, but since unfortunately hubby does love them, I do sometimes give in which results in sweaty palms and me hiding behind a pillow or closing my eyes when I sense a jump scene coming up.

Some of the horror films I’ve seen as an adult that I could handle or appreciate include The Blair Witch Project (although I’ve never dared to rewatch it again since seeing it in the cinema in 1999), Army of Darkness (classic!), Djin (yikes!), Cabin in the Woods (clever!), The Blackening (funny!), and more recently Heretic (coz Hugh Grant is brilliant in it!).

However, being home alone tonight I’m playing it safe and will watch the kid’s classic Hocus Pocus, fun guaranteed 😎.

𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟒 𝐢𝐧 𝟏𝟐 𝐩𝐢𝐜𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞𝐬

Wow looking back at my photo album, 2024 was quite the year!

Early 2024 I decided I wanted to make a trip every two months either on my own, with Hubby or others and I certainly succeeded doing so!

For the last years I’ve also tried very hard to have more of a social life here in the UK and it looks like I’ve finally found my people here which makes me feel more grounded.

My business has grown substantially and I’ve never had so many tours including famous Dutchies, large tour groups and lovely individuals. Considering I started my Dutch tours as a hobby 10 years ago, I feel very lucky and proud!

I tried to pick one highlight per month for 2024 and it was a tough one as each month was filled with many many memorable moments, enjoying exploring London or other countries and places but mostly enjoying meeting new people and reconnecting with older friends. I look back at 2024 with a warm heart and hope 2025 will be at least as great ❤️

What a week for street art fans with seven new Banksy artworks appearing across London!

This one of the three monkeys hanging off the bridge on Brick Lane appeared there on Wednesday.

I passed it during one of my East London Dutch-language tours yesterday which covers this street art-heavy street and for me was the place where I fell in love with street art when I moved to that area 12 years ago.

Despite the many interpretations on the works by people online, Banksy hasn’t made any statements on the works. Usually they’re politically driven, are these as well or is he just having fun? It’s quite the story for summer 2024 though and I’m enjoying every minute of it! 😍

Well, this is not a sight you’ll often see!

And no, I’m not talking about the blue skies in London 😅.

These sculptures adorning Paternoster Square next to St Paul’s Cathedral were made by artist duo who are famous for their fun and cute depictions of animals, raising awareness for the sadly too many endangered animal species around the world.

I’ve been seeing their artworks all across London for over a decade now and also spotted some in Australia a few years ago. Their artworks have appeared in over 250 cities so chances are, there might be some Gillie and Marc animal sculptures somewhere near you even!

Having witnessed an elephant being shot whilst growing up in Zambia, Gillie decided to devote her life to protecting animals. And Marc’s spark for animal conservation ignited when he went to see chimpanzees in Tanzania.

Besides raising awareness amongst the public who see their sculptures, Gillie and Marc also make donations towards wildlife charities.
