Celebrating the 250th anniversary of the birth of John Constable on 11th June 1776

250 years on, Constable is beloved for the revolutionary naturalism with which he painted the English landscape, particularly the Stour Valley round his home in Suffolk. As a young painter he also made portraits of local families, including The Cooper sisters of Woodhouse Farm, Stratford St Mary, c.1802, sold by Richard Green to Christchurch Mansion, Ipswich in 2002. It is currently on view in Christchurch Mansion’s “Constable: A Cast of Characters” (until 14 June), the first of three exhibitions devoted to the artist. “The Hay Wain: Walking Constable’s Landscape” (11 July-4 October) and “Constable to Contemporary” (24 October-28 February 2027) continue the tale.

Richard Green is delighted to present Henry Moore: The Female Form, opening 3 June.

Comprising fourteen sculptures created between 1945 and 1980, the exhibition traces the evolution of Henry Moore’s enduring exploration of the female form across the post-war decades. From intimate maquettes to more monumental bronzes, the works reveal Moore’s extraordinary ability to balance strength, tenderness, abstraction and humanity.

The largest sculpture in the exhibition — a bronze with black patina measuring 17¾ inches in length — exemplifies Moore’s mastery of form, surface and scale, distilling the human figure into something at once timeless and profoundly modern.

Spanning more than three decades of artistic innovation, the exhibition offers a rare insight into one of the defining sculptors of the twentieth century, whose vision transformed the language of modern sculpture.

Opening 3 June at Richard Green.
