The Keepers of Stories is an ongoing charity series — each chapter a new collection of three hand-painted bags telling a complete arc of the story. Chapter 1 introduced our three protagonists. Chapter 2 follows the letters. Chapter 3 will reveal what Grandma Tortoise has been quietly preparing.

All bags are one-of-a-kind hand-painted originals. Once gone, they are gone — but the story continues.

Chapter 2 of The Keepers of Stories is here. 🦭🦔🐢
Three bags. Three creatures. One thread of hope passing between them.
Seal lives on the ice shelf with a wobbling tower of books and more hope than he knows what to do with. The Ice platform splits in two - the books float away as the stack of books falls, losing Hope.
Hedgehog bought a discount plant at the market — not because it was practical, but because she believed it deserved to be saved. She read every book she could find: Fear. Cure. Diagnosis. She understood the words. But understanding isn't wisdom. So she raised the flag on her mailbox, and wrote To: Tortoise.
Tortoise took the letter straight to his grandmother. Grandma Tortoise was already in her armchair, lamp glowing, a book titled wisdom.
She had known someone would need them eventually.
The solution comes in Chapter 3. But for now — the community is gathering. The letters are flying. And somewhere, a half-wilted plant is waiting to find out if it was worth saving.
(It was. It always was.)
🌿 Three hand-painted canvas tote bags. Each one an original. Each one part of an ongoing story about what it means to reach for help — and have someone already reaching back.
Part of the Keepers of Stories charity collection by Hilom Harana — where every bag carries a world worth believing in.

Our 3 characters have returned. Handpainted, one of a kind. For collectors, book lovers, and those who believe a bag should carry a world worth believing in. For the rescuers, the gardeners, and the ones who believe that something struggling is still worth saving. For the wisdom-keepers, the grandmothers in spirit, and the ones who believe in being ready before anyone asks.

Three animals who understand what this collection was always trying to say:
Books are not a task. They are not a target.
They are somewhere you live. Something you tend. Something you share.
Books are healing.
And every child deserves to know it.
The first 3 bags in this collection has been hand-painted, one by one, on natural canvas and gifted to a local independant bookstore.
Because beautiful things should go to children who need them most.
Thank you for following the journey of The Keepers of Stories. Their adventure begins in our online store on the 1st of March 🌿
💛 Share this if stories have ever healed you.

Slow. Steady. And carrying a whole library for his friends. 🐢📚
The Thoughtful Tortoise — the final keeper in The Keepers of Stories collection.
In Yoruba folklore, the tortoise takes the long road. This one is using it to deliver every book he owns to friends around the world — flowers blooming from the shelf as he goes, because that's what happens when you carry stories with enough love.
"To my friends around the world."
The most generous character in the collection. And the most patient.

Introducing The Seal of Enthusiasm. 🦭
He couldn't choose just one.
The second keeper in The Keepers of stories - a hand-painted children's book bag collection donated to the House of Joy Bookstore in Colchester.

A nod to the Celtic coastal folklore, the Selkie lives between two worlds — the sea and the shore, the wild and the quiet. She is always carrying something across a threshold. Always holding more than one life at once.

This little seal understands that completely.

He's read so many books he's run out of places to put them. So they live on his head now. A whole rainbow tower — navy, orange, red, teal, purple — because every colour is a different world, and he refuses to leave any of them behind. And in his flipper? The one he's reading right now. Because a true reader never fully stops.

This is what enthusiasm for stories looks like.

Not careful. Not tidy. Just gloriously, joyfully full of books.
The collection is rooted in the belief that reading is healing — not as a task or a target, but as a way of being. A seal who stacks twelve books on his head and reads a thirteenth knows something most of us forgot along the way:

Stories aren't something you finish. They're somewhere you live.
This bag will be donated to The House of Joy in colchester — alongside The Hedgehog Librarian, and one final keeper still to come 🐢

💛 Tag someone who has too many books and absolutely no regrets about it.

Some stories don't just live on a page — they bloom. 🌿📚
Introducing The Keepers of Stories — a hand-painted children's book bag collection where the first 3 I created, I decided to donate to - a lovely space for books and creativity. Ryan's story resonated close to the heart of everything Hilom Harana stands for. The collection will be available online from May 2026, following the story of our 3 main characters. (Total of 7 book bags in these characters - not mass produced)

Each bag in this collection is a love letter to folklore, to childhood, and to the quiet, profound power of reading.

Meet the first keeper of stories:
🦔 The Hedgehog Gardener
Inspired by English folklore, where the hedgehog is the gentle wanderer of meadows and hedgerows — careful, curious, always noticing things others rush past.
Here she tends her books like a garden. She waters them. She believes that if you give a story enough care, it will grow into something that heals.

The stack reads: Poets. Artistry. The Mind. And from between the pages? Poppies, daisies, and ferns push upward — because books, like flowers, are alive.

Every child deserves a bag that tells them: your imagination is sacred. Your curiosity matters. Stories are yours.

💛 Save this post if this moves you.

What if reading was gardening?
What if every book you opened was a seed — and every time a child reads, something bloomed inside them that nobody could take away?
That's what this bag asked me to paint.
A hedgehog, tending her library like a meadow. Watering the words. Watching the stories grow.
The Keepers of Stories collection is coming — three folklore animals, three stories, one shared belief:
Books are healing. Stories are sacred. Every child deserves both.

🌿 More soon.
