Our eyes are on this - extraordinary collection of art from the late gallerist and collector Ginny Williams of great Post-war female artists such as Louise Bourgeois, Joan Mitchell, Lee Krasner, and Agnes Martin which comes to market in June in a series of auctions at Sotheby’s NYC.

With a collection of over 450 artworks that is expected to sell for more than $50 million dollars, a surprising feature is that over two thirds of the collection are works by female artists.

Her collection includes a strong photography collection that will be auctioned in two sales and features works by Diane Arbus and Dorothea Lange, among other important mainstays of 20th-century photography such as Berenice Abbott and Annie Leibovitz.

Strength and depth marks out a collector‘s vision and passion for collecting works well ahead of her time. We are interested to see the progress of these forthcoming sales and whether any records will be set.

Fabulous new Banksy artwork called Game Changer goes on display in hospital corridor as he thanks NHS staff for their work fighting coronavirus.

Southampton Hospital are the proud new owners for this beautiful monochrome drawing of a child in dungarees playing with his toys. He has discarded Batman and Spider-Man and instead chooses a nurse as his super-Hero of choice. Powerful statement to lift the spirits and inspire all those working on the frontline.

This is an exciting work of art and it’s a shame that it will not stay in situ and will come to market for sale but such is the commercial success of this artist this is an inevitability.

This year at Vitruvian Arts we have sourced several Banksy works from limited edition prints, original works to large installation pieces.

This artist is hugely popular with art collectors banking on his commercial success and there is a short supply of available works for purchase and a high demand.

The painting will remain at Southampton General Hospital until the autumn when it will be auctioned to raise money for the NHS. The mysterious artist added a note, thanking health care staff.

A Lichtenstein Brushstroke Painting or a Francis Bacon Triptych anyone?

The leading auction houses are offering up mega blue-chip works that are extremely rare and exceptional for the auction sales this June.

Far from testing the market we have found that art collectors at the top end of the market have been looking for exceptional works of art just like these in the private sales sector. In fact at our Fine Art Brokerage this year we have had requests for three of the artists named in this article - Rothko, Francis Bacon, and Lichtenstein.

Our Fine Art Brokerage has generally been busy handling requests for great works at reasonable and realistic prices.

Half the problem is when artworks come to market in the private sector the prices are overinflated.

We always drill down on the pricing for our clients, try to get to the bottom of how a price has been reached and if we can’t get a good deal for our clients they are advised accordingly.

So collectors please keep your eyes wide open to pricing. Always get advice on pricing pre-purchase and work on the basis of caveat emptor. Do your due diligence on pricing before a purchase as it’s extremely difficult to unravel a transaction after the event.

Our Corporate Art Service VEDO also recently had the great pleasure of installing and curating 40 prints and original works by International contemporary artists from a private collection throughout a prestigious Barristers' Chambers in Gray's Inn, London. It was fascinating to learn about the aesthetic tastes and interests of the Collector, to consider carefully what sensitively worked within the commercial space and was appropriate for display in a very busy Chambers which holds many client conferences and arbitrations within its arbitration suite.
