My Bio

My name is Becky Cao and I'm currently living in the West Coast of Canda. I produce an average two acrylic paintings on canvas each week in my home studio. Instagram gallery for my sketchbook pages:

My works is mainly focused on impressionism. I sometimes go abstract to express in a deep way. My

favorite art mediums are acrylics paint and watercolors. By looking at my paintings, you will discover a thoughtful way to look at the world, that even the most mundane can be extraordinary through artist’s eyes. All my paintings here are original hand-painted work. I am able to do custom work for you. Contact me with: the size of painting and what would you like me to paint (send me a reference photograph if needed). It takes me about 2-10 days to finish a painting depending on the size and imagery. If you really like a painting from my shop, and would like a larger or smaller size, I can re-create one for you. Sketching Trafalgar Square after visiting the National Gallery.

Using quick pen lines and loose watercolor washes to simplify the beautiful architectural details and capture the sunlight. Feeling grateful for another sunny London day — crisp, comfortable, and perfect for sketching outdoors.

My April online classes will feature London-inspired subjects, focusing on simple and enjoyable ways to sketch architecture and everyday scenes. Everyone is welcome, with lifelong access to recordings.

Just before sunset along the River Thames, I sketched the iconic Big Ben and Westminster Abbey ✨

Sketching on location helps me slow down and truly experience a place, not just see it. With pen and watercolors, I love capturing these quiet travel moments in a simple and personal way.

This piece took about 80 minutes, and I’m grateful for such a peaceful evening in London.

In April, I’ll be teaching online classes inspired by my London sketches. We’ll practice simplifying architecture and creating atmosphere with ink and watercolor. Beginners and intermediate artists are all welcome — our international sketch group is always warm and encouraging.

Such a beautiful start to my England adventure! Two days of sunshine already — I feel so lucky. I spent a quiet afternoon sketching Tower Bridge for two hours, and filled a few more pages with some delicious meals along the way.

My April online sketching classes will feature images from my England vacation. 🙂

A rainy afternoon sketching at a wonderful café in downtown Vancouver, with the Holy Rosary Cathedral right outside the window. I captured a lady sitting in front of me and the cathedral beyond the glass. Two quiet hours with pen, watercolors, and a latte — simply sketching the moment.

Sketchbook pages from the past few days.

Winter is slowly fading, and Vancouver is gifting us more and more sunshine.

A peaceful evening view outside my window.
A quiet lunch sketch at my favorite café — mac and cheese with tea, and two ladies three tables away chatting about everything: art, education, politics… life unfolding in soft background voices.

Slowing down enough to notice it all.

A lovely day wandering around Main Street in Vancouver. After lunch, I grabbed a coffee at Terra Breads in Olympic Village and sketched a lady sitting across from me, along with the view outside the window — False Creek and the silhouette of Science World. Spring is definitely in the air.

Later, I headed over to Science World to draw the white puma taxidermy — such a striking subject to study up close.

Thank you to the Science World team for the gifted entry ticket. What a fun and inspiring day.

I hosted a livestream on my YouTube channel today, where I sketched my fur baby DuDu resting on a plum blossom, combining two reference photos into one peaceful scene. It was a special and creative session.

This week in my sketchbook — mostly ordinary days.

Home. A neighborhood café. A lovely bookstore on Granville Island that I couldn’t resist drawing.

I’m reminding myself that art isn’t about waiting for perfect inspiration or creating perfect pages. It’s about showing up. Consistently. Even on quiet, uneventful days.

Some sketches turn out better than others. That’s okay. The real joy is in the process — sitting down, observing, putting pen to paper, and letting the moment unfold.

Not perfection. Just practice. Just presence. And a little bit of fun each day.
